Awesome photo! We went on an airboat ride on the St. John’s River at Lone Cabbage a few years back. The guide told us that the blue heron is a natural predator to baby gators. The heron knows how to peck baby gators at the soft spot on the top of their heads. I never knew that.
Very cool. I didn't know that either. Living on Lake Sinclair watching the herons fuss with each other is a favorite pastime of mine. Those jokers are territorial as hell. There are a couple pine trees at a point that for some reason has been chosen as a breeding ground for probably 15-20 herons. I can't remember exactly what time of year it is, but when the babies are in the nests the entire trees and ground beneath are turn white from heron poop.Awesome photo!
