In watching how the NIL system is working, it is quite similar to how our elected officials conduct business.

Similar, but with a few distinct differences.

In NIL, schools are purchasing players with the allure of money

In our government, elected officials purchase votes by the allure of benefits to the voter

Both are selling. Both use money as the incentive.

The interesting difference though, is in the money used by the schools and government and the transparency in the process.

Money will corrupt human processes. Greed, apathy and power all play into the money issue.

With that, NIL is actually a more honest process than our political structure.

In NIL, companies or groups voluntarily provide the funds to fund the player. It is not taken blindly from funds given to the schools by supporters. Expenditures are accounted for and the system is transparent.

In our government, our money is spent without our permission. Elected officials use our taxes to fund programs to buy votes. There is no transparency in the transaction for the taxpayer. Much of our money goes to programs and organizations we would not support naturally or voluntarily. Our taxes cannot be designated for infrastructure needs such as roads, military and a common legal process.

We can vote a candidate out, but our taxes are still in control of the elected we did not vote in.

Our government should not have the right to spend a penny of our tax dollars for any benevolence program. Any and all benevolence should be conducted on the private citizen and corporate level, very much similar to how NIL works, as a voluntary act of support.

To think we actually allow our elected to spend our money the way we do is really pretty stupid.

If we have needs for citizens, work on ways to fix the problem, not fund the problem.

But of course, that isn’t sellable by the candidate. To hold citizens accountable doesn’t get you elected, giving other peoples money away does.

And it is done without transparency. We truly are a stupid species. Our sinful nature just continues to eat itself.
