-Conservatives on this message board are extremely tribal. Anyone (progressives, Democrats, Republicans-in-name-only) who does not strictly adhere to their ideology must be vilified.

-To the conservatives on this message board, anyone who demonstrates greater skill or intelligence in comparison to a conservative is immediately attacked, especially if the person in question's words or actions prove conservative ideology wrong. The conservatives on this message board are very adolescent, suffer from insecurity and a massive inferiority complex. They behave irrationally, like a child that rebels against its parents.

-The conservatives on this message board are very frequently wrong on even simple, generally accepted facts. Conservatives hate to lose, and they would rather retreat further into hate instead of questioning why they have those feelings in the first place.

-The conservatives on this message board have problems with authority. Conservatives in general don't like anyone telling them what to do. They believe they know what is best for themselves on every issue, even regarding issues where they lack knowledge. They especially don't like progressives telling them what to do because they don't think any progressive deserves a position of authority, even when it is earned. This attitude is a remnant of the pre-Civil War south, where only certain classes of people were entitled to positions of authority. Conservatives have aristocratic pretentions.

-Progressives are proponents and advocates for change. Conservatives on this message board are frightened of change and how it may affect their perceived status in society. They get scared when they are in professional or social situations in which they are the racial minority, and they become irrational when people, places, and things don't look or feel the same relative to their expectations. Frequently they will revert to childhood and pine for the "good ole days". On almost every political or social issue, progressives represent moving forward, not looking back, so conservatives become terribly frightened by that.

Why even call them conservatives? They're not imo.....more , like, fundamentalist extremists

This is exactly what I mean....to you teabaggers, ANY remotely dissenting view even within the republican membership (of which I am a part, btw) is met with immediate freakeration and bleating. It's damn near comical until one realizes that y'all aren't kidding with your dumbassery

There is nothing "progressive" about regressing so stop misusing the word to confuse. Leftist leadership has this country in reverse, and frankly in a tailspin we are unlikely to recover from. No matter how you wrap the intent of actions in a cloak of warm, feel-good, socialistic BS, the results of moving this country into socialism has taken this country from a country others aspired to be like, to one which leads in nothing but the size of our debt. I think it was the Great Society in the mid-60s which began our decent but you can debate which other libtard decisions are to blame. The party which has championed this rapid fall is not even debatable. I am not a Republican, wish both of the parties would collapse, I just vote against all Dimocrats because they are the anti-America party, and has been for at least 30+ years.

The old Soviet Union and Israel had plans in place in the 80s and 90s as to how to handle the break up of the US because it is inevitable. The timeline could be anytime from this fall until 2020, but the signs are all there. Never has an administration so polarized the country, but then never before was one so infiltrated by Saul Allinsky's pupils. Prepare yourselves, things are going to change in ways we never imagined growing up.

I don't expect ignorant people to listen. The founders of this country were liberals. Had they been conservative, they never would have made the break from the British Empire. When James Madison drafted the Constitution, he deliberately created a powerful federal government. If he, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay had been conservatives, they would have been content with the Articles of Confederation that kept the government small and weak.

Thomas Jefferson was a political liberal. As president, he purchased the Louisiana Territory even though the US Constitution said nothing about the executive branch's right to acquire land. He believed corporations should be restricted from having too much power. He also was an advocate for spending tax revenues on national infrastructure and called for federal funding for the National Road.

Abraham Lincoln was a political liberal. He was the first president to sign an income tax into law. He was the political figure most responsible for abolishing slavery. He supported the Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act of 1862, which provided federal grants for agricultural colleges in every state.

Theodore Roosevelt was the greatest progressive politician in American history. He advocated for food purity laws, federal regulation of the meat-packing industry, using the power of the federal government to break up corporate monopolies and trusts, thus restoring economic competition and lower prices for consumers. In 1912, he called for a National Health Service, social insurance to provide for the elderly, the disabled, and the unemployed, a federal securities commission, worker's compensation, a federal inheritance tax, and a constitutional amendment to provide for a federal income tax.

Franklin Roosevelt was a great liberal politician. He helped give Americans Social Security, FDIC insurance, rural electrification, farm subsidies, a progressive tax code, and the GI Bill for veterans of World War II . His administration dramatically improved the life of the common American.

Harry Truman was a liberal. He desegregated the armed forces, approved the Marshall Plan to help rebuild Europe following World War II, and issued executive orders prohibiting discrimination in federal hiring.

Lyndon Johnson was a liberal. He pushed Congress to enact the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, Medicare, Medicaid, and federal spending on education.

These great liberals took on the causes of the poor, the disenfranchised, the sick, the hungry, the homeless, and the jobless and molded America into a place where they too could thrive and have opportunities. Because of American liberalism, the United States became a nation of compassion, innovation, freedom, opportunity, ideas, wealth, equality, and respect envied throughout the world.

In contrast, conservatism has never been successful for very long in this country and has led to some of the darkest periods in American history---the Gilded Age of the 1870s and 1880s, and the Great Depression.

Good ol' FDR...yep, he solidified the Democratic Party's stronghold on the ignorant and poor by giving them reason to forever remain dependent on government handouts. Glad nearly 40% of what I earn goes to shitbags who won't lift a finger to earn it for themselves. A+ FDR.

Because liberals are morons that ignore history and can't think past a fart. They're a mile wide and an inch deep. They follow a failed pholosphy with a history of death, destruction and economic turmiol. They support POSOTUS who after almost 7 yrs has an economy that is underwater, a HC plan that was forced on the ppl who don't want it, cares more about illegal mexicans than Americans. Liberals are liars, they're tyrants. They're regressives. Trying the same shit over and over that never works

They waste trillions of dollars on a HOAX, they are anti Christian but pro muslim, they're mean nasty ppl who accuse others of being mean and nasty. In short they're just the lowest of the low, Facts, reason, logic and common sense escape them.

Liberals aren't forward looking, they're just power hungry misfits. They DGAS about the ppl they claim to champion. Those ppl are just useful idiots. They only care about their votes and making sure they keep voting for them and keeping them on the plantation. Yes I hate liberal because of what they do to ppl......goofy dipshit

WRONG. The largest part of the "40% of what [you] earn" goes to defense (27 cents of every tax dollar, followed by Medicare/Medicaid (22.7 cents), interest on the federal debt (13.9 cents), unemployment and labor (9.8 cents), veterans' benefits (5.1 cents), food stamps and farm subsidies (5 cents), federal government operations (4.5 cents), housing and community (4 cents), education (2 cents), energy and environment (1.9 cents), international affairs (1.5 cents), transportation (1.4 cents), and science (1.1 cents),

Aside from Social Security and FDIC (neither of which could be categorized as government handouts), what New Deal agencies/programs exist in 2015? Farm subsidies? I believe the conservatives support that today, it's called corporate welfare.

Your whole post could be summed up;in 1 sentence. Cons are stupid racists and dems are intelligent and enlightened. What ideas are coming out of the Dem party except socialism, tax and spend, and redistribution of wealth? Those are old ideas which have been proven not to work. Not sure how u come up with dems being more intelligent unless it is because u have a need to feel superior.

Thanks to you and M for telling me how I feel, now I may understand where I come from even better. You are completely off the mark.
Conservatives think for themselves and do not like a politician or a group off non-producers telling us how we need to live or give to those who will not work for them selves. I have problems with authority overstepping their bounds. They tell me which light bulbs I can buy, that i must allow illegal immigrants to pour over our borders and suck our finances dry while not contributing back to the system, How I must worship and how I must give up freedom for security. I am not afraid of change, but welcome a change of the current flawed and failed so call leaders we have in power. Libs are to hateful and close minded to see the truth in front of their faces. You call what we are dealing with now progress?
You are completely out of your mind. What ticks me off is the brave men that fought and died for this concept called freedom only to have the libs freely give it back to the masters in D.C. You are the children, because you need big government to support you from cradle to grave "it's not fair that others have more things than me" say the libs. Also you can not debate with out name calling "teabaggers? " Childish.
Conservatives want the government to scale back it's reach and let us live our lives with out their intrusions. The good old days are certainly behind us now, you were correct on that measure. When you call that type of thinker progressive it is actually the opposite meaning used to trick the dumb masses into thinking we are moving in a forward and positive direction. Could not be further from the truth. Conservatives want everyone to achieve and we are not envious or jealous when people do achieve great things, It's called CAPITALISM and it works until your progressive movement comes along to "level" the playing field. As stated by others the cities with the most problems and issues are the ones run by your progressive style of government. You can not even be truthful an evaluate the facts when you debate. That is why you are always on the losing side of an argument on this board. Please try to open that fragile mind and see the world for what it really is!

OK, Special Ed. Care to explain the difference between classical liberalism and modern liberalism? Can you prove your incorrect assertion that FDR prolonged the Great Depression with some real verifiable facts? Can you disprove my assertion that Jefferson was liberal? I have facts to back me up. You contradict yourself when speaking of the founding fathers and you conspicuously omit the constitution. By your definition there is nothing more conservative than an old... written document. It requires that we be governed by laws and not by men and their desire for change. It's no wonder that so many progressives hate the limits of power put on them by a document written over 200 years ago. Happy 4th.

I realize you don't have much experience with real intellectual discourse, but can you actually cite facts to back up your fanciful opinions?

Maybe your total lack of experience in making a living in the "private sector" is the ONLY reason you can champion the failed policies of the liberals and the toll they've taken. If you'd had to earn a living your entire adult life in the real world instead of receiving every pay check from the "taxpayers" your pompous and arrogant attitude would have been adjusted a long time ago. When I called you out a few days ago about having always been a government employee in one form or another it confirmed every negative opinion I had of you. # 1 You're not nearly as smart as you pretend to be # 2 Your arrogance is totally misplaced because every time you open your mouth you show just how limited your thinking truly is # 3 You are as much of "scum sucking" taker as any "welfare queen" or anyone with a free Obama phone. You may be impressed with yourself but as a veteran, owner of multiple businesses over the years, and current director of a clinical testing facility you don't impress me 1 iota. Come back in a few years after you've gotten your lips off the "government tit" and actually worked in the "real world" and tell us if you have the same "regressive" views.

Put up or shut up.

I don't know how much taxpayer money is being wasted on your salary to teach your version of history but it's a fact that when FDR tried to put limits in the late 30s on the government programs he had enacted, the country started to rescind into recession again and it took the military build up related to WWII to change the country's economic course.

If you are trying to imply that LBJ's policies have been successful you are beyond delusional. Not only have they failed to help the intended targets economically, they managed to help destroy the "family unit" in the process. You may be among the dumbest SOBs I've ever had the displeasure to encounter.

1). They broke from Great Britian because they wanted FREEDOM
2). Really? LBJ, maybe the most corrupt President until this one?
3). Truman desegregated the military because a Progressive icon, Woodrow Wilson re-segregated them before WWI
4). FDR. PLEASE, please don't refer to him as a great President. Half of our problems today can be traced directly back to his policies.

Look, Chuckles, all I ask is that we actually live within our means and keep our borders and streets safe. Is that too much to ask? Should I really be forced to turn over 40% of my income to keep this bloated monstrosity afloat? Do you know ANYTHING about economics?

Very thoughtful post... so academic. But don't flatter yourself too much.

Happy 4th.
Now see, that was just mean. I love how they refer to the Constitution as, to quote HRC, "a living breathing document". They don't want it to stay the same, because it lays out, in black and white, a roadmap for a thriving, free society. That would never mesh with their vision of a totalitarian utopia, with them in charge. Have you noticed that he consistently quotes the Federalist Papers, without mentioning that they were opinions, and that much of it didn't make it into the Constitution?

You never addressed my comments. Detroit, Baltimore, et al. are failures.

I'm not for getting in this debate but the mayor being lib/pub arguement for failure or sucess of a city doesn't really hold water. San Fransiciso, new York have lib mayors and do very well. Hell, houston has an openly gay mayor in a pub state and I've lived there recently and that city is booming because of the oil/gas/hightech/medical industries amongst others. Detroits failure is primarily the US car manufacturers failure.

Cities have violent crime, all of them do. Murder rates are higher in cities (drastically higher) in those countries that allow guns, like ours does. This allows for tons of gun violence that hinders the growth of any city. (I will give Bloomberg and Guliani a hell of a lot of credit for clearing out NY-Baltimore could use one of those guys but even then it would be hard to fix some parts of Baltimore-economic regentrification is their only hope). The poorest areas in the country with the least economic success are rural areas (the southern states paritcularily the applachain region which is the poorest section in America). Do we blame rural states governors for their pverty and rural crime? If so we have to blame that on all the pub governers of southern states for decades. I don't think that's productive.

I just think, to say a mayor or governor is lib/pub is the primary reason for a shitty city/crappy rural area minimalizes many other factors going into a cities shittiness/rural areas crappiness that the mayor/governor has little control over. On average, rich cities and states that are growing economically are going to be safer and nicer and the mayor/governor has some control over that but not much. Detroits mayor has little to nothing to do with the American auto industry essentially leaving Detroit. Silicon valley isn't going to develop in Black Mountain, NC regarless of what jesse helms, or any governor of NC tries to do.

That or maybe I'm just tired...

Cognitive Dissonance - is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time, or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values.

This is the current state of the political right. Rolo how can you possible say such a thing about the economy when every other economist in the country says the exact opposite. U.S. jobs opening at a 15 year high, employment rate at 8 year low, stock market through the roof and number of americans without healthcare is plummeting. All of this is thanks to left political actions and the right (specifically southerner righties) should be ashamed of how it ran the country into the ground prior to Obama.

The media and the government have stopped counting the unemployed who could not find jobs and are no longer counted in the data as such.
Well that is just a way the books are being cooked to make this administration look better. The economy is not showing real improvement, it will have gains and huge losses that rise and fall with the administrations incompetent ability to understand economics.Socialized healthcare, please that is the biggest scam they have foisted upon the US citizens. It is an inferior product that cost more than most can afford. As a small business owner we are being raked over the coals to subsidize those who could receive healthcare before the ACA. It was just a law to bring 1/8 of the us economy under government control. Name one program or bill obama has that has bolstered or strengthened freedom for US citizens.

And who supplies the data, The federal government right? We can always trust them can't we.
Welfare has increased to a record high under this administration and that is by design. Not everyone can handle freedom, unfortunately most prefer the comfort of big brother handing out crumbs and promises of free goodies. The left prays on the weak in our society and you champion that cause. You fought for better than this, where did you lose that desire to fight for what is right?

-Conservatives on this message board are extremely tribal. Anyone (progressives, Democrats, Republicans-in-name-only) who does not strictly adhere to their ideology must be vilified.

-The conservatives on this message board blah, blah, blah... Etc....

You f*ing moron.

Don't you realize that you aren't supposed to use labels when slinging mud?

That's something Alinsky should've delved more deeply into, I guess. Either that, or one brain cell was tied up looking through your doctrine on how to ridicule your conservative enemies while the other one concentrated on how to vilify the beliefs this country was founded on.

I thought that you change agents and community organizers didn't like it when you're not treated as individuals and labels are used... At least keep your shi+ straight.

You group thinkers whose alignment to ideology concentrating on destruction of our country is why there can never be positive changes made in our country.

You're not being "part of the solution", you are instead a part of the problem and a cancer to those who have to work for a living and have a moral compass.

While you sit on your welfare ass, at least brush up some more on the teachings of your communist heroes.

No every economist doesn't. Its all BS. We have the highest work force participation rate since Carter, 95 m unemployed. Job growth at an all time low. We have less jobs today than when POSOTUS took office. You shouldn't really talk about things you don't understand. The Markets is inflated because the fed has been pumping billions per month it in, we've almost doubled our debt, the Unemploment number is FAKE its a LIE, just like anything else POSOTUS says and does. How the hell do you grow an economy by taking money out of it....its stupid on its face. Healthcare numbers too are BS. 6M PPL lost their coverage....remember we could keep it if we wanted? And just wait, 2016 is when all the really bad BS kicks in

If you think this is a good economy you a fcking moron of the highest order...and I don't say that as a dig or kidding...its serious . We had negitive growth last qtr, we are in a resession , but POSOTUS puts out phony numbers and his willing media won't report it. But I work in the business. I have my finger on the pulse.

But you go on believing the BS. You're overseers have labled you a useful idiot....its the only think they ever got right.

Definition of cognitive dissonance to a "t" there Rolo. Just keep ignoring all the evidence to the contrary about the he economy. And yes e
Nearly every reputable economist agrees the economy is doing well and no is saying we're still in a recession. Wake up and smell the hehe money being made our there.

Oh and stop with this 2016 B'S about ACA. The right has been saying every year something will happen and ACA will destroy the world but it never happens. You guys are like a cult praying to your god Ronald Reagan.

Truth is most jobs being added are part-time, in large part due to the ACA you think is so great. Who thinks we are "still" in a recession? A majority of the American public. Why? Because wages have actually decreased under Obama and his policies. But go on drinking the kool-aid. As far as the ACA, the faltering participation of young people will be it's downfall. They see it's a bad deal with little coverage and sky high deductibles. Now the taxpayers are stuck with the bill. Just like the opponents to this "crap predicted.

Under FDR in the 1930's Federal Spending was almost half of the GDP. Something obviously impossible to sustain and would make present day Greece look financially responsible in comparison. When FDR tried reducing federal spending and the "false economic growth" it had created (14%/yr) the country quickly plunged into recession in 1937-38. The truth was that no real economic recovery had happened, that in fact FDR's policies had created a false sense of economic progress. FDR quickly started the deficit spending again but it was WWII and the billions spent in the war effort that changed the country's economic course. Unfortunately neither you or Obama know much about history (despite the fact some folks even dumber than yourself pay you to teach it) and the fact that an economy propped up by government deficit spending can't be sustained over the long-term and that other people's money will run out no matter how "noble" you think the taxpayer funded programs like FDR and Obama create.
