Bruce Pearl:

“My hat is off to Mike White and that coaching staff,

They have changed the culture of this program. They have gotten some great kids in recruiting, they have beaten me in recruiting. A lot of guys on that roster we recruited.

Special players make special plays in special situations. When you’re playing a really good team like Georgia, every player is challenged at every position. And your best players have to be the ones to step up.

Georgia is going to beat almost everybody that comes in here, they are, and they might beat everybody that comes in. They are a really good team, with a really good roster, and they are really deep.

I think Georgia is really good defensively, they have big, strong physical guys that are mobile, and they work well together.

“This is one win, we are definitely getting back on that bus to head home, feeling good about."

Sources: Arkansas freshman Boogie Fland will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a hand injury.

Averages 15.1 PPG.

Arkansas entered the night ranked 90th in AdjO, per KenPom.

Fland has been Arkansas’ best and most dynamic offensive player. Only he and Adou Thiero have really produced consistently.

Things may go from bad to worse for the Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE – “Arkansas returns to Bud Walton Arena for the first of two home games this week starting Wednesday (Jan. 22) versus Georgia. Tip-off versus the Bulldogs is set for 8 pm (CT) and the game will be televised on SEC Network.

After Georgia, the Razorbacks will host Oklahoma on Saturday (Jan. 25) at 7:30 pm (CT).

NOTES:

  • Arkansas and Georgia have met on 44 previous occasions, all coming since the Razorbacks joined the SEC for the 1991-92 season.
  • Arkansas leads the all-time series 27-17 versus the Bulldogs including a 14-3 mark in games played in Fayetteville.
  • The teams split games last year, each winning on their home court.
  • Arkansas has won 10 of the last 13, including seven straight in Bud Walton Arena.
  • Arkansas has blocked at least five shots 12 times this season, including 7 of the last 8 games, and ranks 4th nationally in blocked shots, averaging 6.11 per game. Arkansas has 64 blocked shots in the last eight games for an average of 8.0 per contest.
  • Zvonimir Ivisic is coming off a career game, and personally ended an eight-game slump. The sophomore not only led the team in scoring (14 pts) and rebounds (10 rebs) but also did so in blocked shots (3) and steals (2). He produced his first career double-double, had a career-high 10 rebounds and played a career-high 29:30.
  • Prior to Mizzou, in the previous eight games, he only scored 14 points with 19 rebounds. However, at Missouri, he scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • Over the past three games, Arkansas has grabbed double-digit offensive rebounds including 15 versus Florida, 17 at LSU and 10 at Missouri. Ironically, Arkansas is just 2-5 this year when grabbing at least 10 offensive rebounds.”

Southwest Times Record: Arkansas basketball vs Georgia: Scouting report, prediction as Hogs host Bulldogs

How does Arkansas basketball guard Asa Newell?

The 6-foot-11 freshman is averaging 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, leading the Bulldogs in both categories. He's an athletic big who gets to the basket off the dribble, posting up and making backdoor cuts. He's also a serviceable jump shooter, hitting 31.6% of his 3-pointers.

There is no obvious Razorback to take the Newell matchup. Newell could stretch Jonas Aidoo away from the basket and punish the alternatives inside the paint. John Calipari will need a strong game plan to nullify Newell, who ESPN recently ranked as the 21st-best prospect for the 2025 NBA Draft.

Can Big Z replicate his latest performance?

Arkansas players haven't been able to produce consistent performances in the SEC. The latest player tasked with that challenge is Zvonimir Ivisic.

After scoring three total points in the Hogs' first four conference games, Ivisic produced 14 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's loss to Missouri. He made a pair of 3-pointers and was an effective screener in the pick-and-roll, generating multiple easy dunks.

Another double-double seems unlikely, but Ivisic was a non-factor prior to this weekend. The Razorbacks need him to become a valuable piece of the rotation.

What are the Razorbacks made of?

This is a gut-check week for the Hogs. They have two winnable home games before taking a week off. The next game is Calipari's reunion with Kentucky.

Arkansas simply has to win these next two games if it wants any chance at making the NCAA Tournament. The national media is writing stories about Calipari's decline and this team has now heard for three weeks it's one of the worst in the SEC.

Coaching and matchups will only be part of the equation Wednesday night. Arkansas needs to want this game more and show that desire in front of its home fans.

Prediction

The SEC drought ends against Georgia. The Hogs will do enough against Newell and their backcourt will have a strong night. If Arkansas loses to the Bulldogs, the calendar might officially turn toward baseball season. Arkansas 77, Georgia 72.”
