I never said we were giving hope to those in the Middle East. I just said that if we are serious about being a superpower than we need to change our approach. I like the WWII and Roman Empire models. By the way we are still in Japan and Germany and it has worked pretty well for us. How can you deny that?

Who is interested in being a superpower ? In today's world it serves no purpose other than to feed the defense industry. It's not an obtainable goal even if we wanted to play slum lord to the world, which I don't.
Our interest should be quality of life oriented, not some ego trip about who has the bigger stick.

I'd rather us do it then let the Chinese do it to us. Better to be strong then conquered.

Endless occupation and conflict in The Mideast would weaken our ability to counter China, not strengthen it.
We spend more on defense than the other 9 of the top 10 militaries in the world combined. Don't you ever get tired of having your buttons pushed by those getting rich off your sports like concepts of strength and weakness ?
Quality of life used to be the goal, with military as a tool to that end. Now it's just empty flag waving while egotistical patriotism is manipulated by the defense industry and those in government and the private sector whose job is to pull your strings.

I think you live in a make believe world protected by people like myself who have risked their life so you can pontificate your idyllic utopian fantasies. The absence of world leadership is what created World War II. It was a vacuum that was filled with Hitler, Mussolini, and Japan's military control over the Emperor of Japan. Appeasement of that created the monster of Hitler. Appeasement of ISIS and Syria has created this mess now. For someone who claims to know world history I am surprised at your conclusions and what you are advocating.
