From BC website:

“Anthony Goins is in his third season as a member of Earl Grant's staff at Boston College. Goins arrived in Chestnut Hill after spending two seasons in a similar role at Clemson.

"We are excited to have Anthony on our staff," Grant said. "He is unbelievably energetic, hard-working, and someone who has a wide array of recruiting contacts from North Carolina to the New England prep schools. He has a proven ability in skill development and is a great basketball coach."

During the 2020-21 season, Goins helped lead the Tigers to a 16-8 overall record and a trip to the 2021 NCAA Tournament. While at Clemson, he oversaw the development of the Tigers' backcourt standouts Tevin Mack, Al-Amir Dawes, and Nick Honor.

Prior to joining the staff at Clemson, Goins spent two seasons at Quinnipiac. During the 2018-19 campaign, Goins helped to lead the Bobcats to its first winning season in five years and a trip to the postseason, competing in the CollegeInsider.com Invitation Tournament (CIT). During his time at QU, Goins helped to develop three All-MAAC guards, including First Team All-MAAC selection Cameron Young.

Goins served as an assistant coach at Yale on head coach James Jones' staff for four seasons from 2014-17. During that stretch, the Bulldogs averaged over 20 wins per season, compiling an 82-42 overall mark. During the 2015-16 season, Yale set school records for most wins in a season (23), best home record (12-0) and best Ivy League record (13-1). Yale advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 54 years and went on to defeat fifth-seeded Baylor in the first round - the first NCAA Tournament victory in Yale basketball history.

The season prior, Goins helped Yale win its first Ivy League title since 2001-02, winning 22 games - including an 11-3 record in Ivy League play. During his time in New Haven, Goins made immediate impacts in recruiting and development, including a pair of First Team All-Ivy players Javier Duren (2015) and Makai Mason (2016).

He began his collegiate coaching career at Dartmouth in 2013-14, helping the Big Green to its highest win total in 15 years. For three years prior to Dartmouth from 2010-13, Goins served as an assistant coach for Salisbury Prep School in Connecticut, which compiled a 64-18 record in New England Prep School basketball (NEPSAC) during his tenure.

Goins graduated from St. John's in 2008 with a degree in sports management. While at St. John's, he served as a practice player for the men's team and helped with women's practices as well. Originally from Greensboro, N.C., Goins attended Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va.”

“It was Grant, in fact, who helped Goins land his previous job as an assistant at Clemson—a role Grant himself served for four years. Feeling thankful and indebted to Grant, Goins said joining his staff on the Heights was a natural fit.

“Sometimes people do things for you, and you always are extremely grateful, and then when you get the opportunity to repay that person, I think it’s important to do that,” Goins said…

Grant echoed this emphasis on recruiting, particularly praising Goins’ keen eye for prospective talent.

“Through the transfer portal, the first person that brought Quinten Post’s name to my attention was Anthony Goins,” Grant said.

Regarding scouting and gameplanning, Grant said Goins focuses on the offensive end and McCrae on special situations, but that he tasks both coaches with academic-related responsibilities.

“They also have responsibility as an academic coach,” Grant said. “Each one of those guys have four or five players that they’re responsible for as it pertains to academics—just making sure to help them stay organized, remind them of their appointments, and set them up with tutors when they need it.”

This holistic approach to coaching transcends on-court duties, according to Goins.

“They’re 18, 19, 20 year old kids that need someone to care about them every single day,” Goins said. “Because if that’s not happening, then the basketball piece is so far secondary.”

With all of these responsibilities on their plates, each assistant coach said their central focus lies squarely on the present.

“Your individual success will come if you focus on the team success,” Goins said. “I truly believe that, and have always believed that, even from my first opportunity to coach in collegiate basketball.”

RJ Godfrey

From the Athletic: Four transfers I’m betting on

R.J. Godfrey, Georgia: He’s built like a defensive end and has some game too. He was behind P.J. Hall and Ian Schiefffelin at Clemson. Given a chance to play starter minutes, Godfrey could be a breakout star. His per-40 averages — 15.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.6 blocks — support this argument.
