Alabama
Tuscaloosa News: Alabama basketball taking steps toward facility expansion and renovation

“This news is not related to the new arena, which was originally announced in February 2022, when the proposed cost was about $183 million. A year later, that number jumped to $250 million because of inflation.

And now, Byrne and company will have to figure out how to navigate a budget in a world where schools are sharing revenue with athletes, which will be made possible with the finalization of the House settlement. That could further complicate the new arena timeline.”

New Alabama G Houston Mallette will wear No. 95. That is allowed under a 2023 NCAA rule change. Previously players needed to wear digits 5 and under to make it easier for officials to signal jersey numbers for fouls with two hands.

Arkansas
Arkansas will reportedly host Oakland as part of the 2024-25 non-conference schedule

Oklahoma
Oklahoman: OU, Norman leaders release renderings of proposed basketball, women's gymnastics arena

After several months of discussion regarding a potential new arena, the coalition of Norman leaders heavily involved in the creation of the proposed $1.2 billion University North Park entertainment district released the public’s first look at conceptual renderings Wednesday afternoon in the president’s conference room inside Evans Hall.”

“The images depict what would be a new $330 million, 8,000-seat capacity arena for both OU men's and women's basketball teams as well as women's gymnastics that would open in time for the 2027-28 seasons. The arena would be surrounded by retail shops, bars and a hotel.

According to leaders at the event, the university and private investments would provide $100 million of the $330 million needed.”

Only 4 of the top 100 transfers in ThePortalReport rankings are still available:

#13 Jamir Watkins - Florida State

#40 Arthur Kaluma - Kansas State

#42 Coleman Hawkins - Illinois

#88 Jordan Lathon - Morehead State

BYU
BYU's Kevin Young has hired St. Joe's John Linehan as an assistant coach.

Linehan most recently was an assistant at Saint Joe's and Georgia. Of course, he's most well known for being a Providence great and one of the NCAA's all-time leaders in steals.

California
Ready to feel old? Stephon Marbury II has committed to Cal, per his IG. I believe he has committed as a walk-on.

Central Florida
Moustapha Thiam, Top-40 prospect in 2025, has reclassified and will enroll at UCF for the upcoming season.

18-year-old Senegalese national with high level mobility at 7-1 with a 7-5 wingspan.

Davidson
Roberts Blūms has withdrawn from the NBA Draft and committed to Davidson in the class of 2024.

The 6’2” Latvian sniper earned Champions League minutes as a 17-to-18 year-old this season.

Nice sharp-shooting backcourt addition for the Wildcats.

Kansas
Mississippi State transfer guard Shakeel Moore has committed to Kansas.

Sean Paul: Explosive athlete and defender from a really good program heads to Kansas. Immediate replacement for Elmarko Jackson. If Kansas needs Moore to spot start, he’s more than capable. Just a good bench piece and a guy willing to play his role.

Kansas guard Elmarko Jackson has suffered a torn patellar tendon, per the school. The full rehab process will take approximately 12 months.

South Florida
Tampa Bay Times: USF extends contract of men’s basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim

“USF has announced a contract extension for men’s basketball coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, which in theory would keep him with the Bulls until 2030.

Financial details weren’t immediately available, but the deal is expected to include a significant salary increase.”

“Abdur-Rahim, 43, signed a six-year, $7.35 million deal upon his arrival from Kennesaw State last spring. In his inaugural season, he oversaw one of the most staggering transformations in the history of Bulls athletics, leading a team that hadn’t posted a winning record in five years to a school-record 25 victories (25-8), the program’s first conference regular-season crown and an NIT berth.

The team also earned the program’s first Associated Press top-25 ranking and recorded a collective 3.20 GPA for the 2023-2024 academic year. In the wake of that resurgent season, Abdur-Rahim — named American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year —was attached to vacancies at Michigan, Louisville and Oklahoma State.”

Villanova
Miami transfer Wooga Poplar has committed to Villanova and enrolled in summer classes.

Averaged 13.1 PPG last season.

A key perimeter addition for the Wildcats

Sean Paul: Poplar started the year off pretty insane for Miami, then dealt with inconsistency in league play. He can really, really shoot it though. Needed wing piece for Villanova. Adding Poplar and Eric Dixon saved Villanova’s offseason to some extent

NBA Draft

Projected top-10 NBA draft pick Nikola Topic has a partially torn ACL, his agent, Misko Raznatovic, confirmed to ESPN. Topic is at the NBA's Draft Combine in Italy, where he went through the NBA's medical examination.
