-Great win. I can't say enough about Tanner Houck. That guy is unreal. Definitely the best stuff that I've seen from an opponent this year. But we really battled... much better approach than we had for Clemson. I wouldn't have picked Tucker Maxwell to be the guy to take him deep, but I loved the aggressiveness on the 3 ball count.
-Those are the kinds of games that I love. Give me that over 11-8 any day.
-How about Andrew Gist? That's three in a row where he has been really good, but he was at a new level tonight... you had to figure with the late start time that it would be a very large strike zone, and it was. But I thought that our pitchers did a much better job of adjusting to that than their hitters. What did we have? 16 K's on the night? They were mostly very low stress innings for Gist, also. I thought Kristofak was the right guy and I loved that we didn't try to go too far with Gist... staff was managed great tonight.
-I agree with Stricklin that Biggar did a great job behind the plate tonight. I think that was the best he's caught this year. He won a lot of strikes.
-Things definitely got chippy there after the 8th. When Curry got hit, he gave a long stare to Houck on the way the 1st. I don't know who said what to who after the inning, but it got pretty loud pretty quick. Ole Curry has some Nelson Ward in him, I think. I thought both coaches did a nice job of not letting it escalate, as did the umps. Really intense game and a lot of chatter from both dugouts. No idea if any of that carries over tomorrow.
-Lastly, I tip my cap to Missouri for playing. Walking by their bus, going into the stadium, it was apparent they'd come straight here from the airport. I think they landed around 715p or so, maybe later. I really respect the fact that they showed up and played. I imagine those guys are going to sleep hard tonight.
