A few theories on the mysterious Nick Buchanan offer imo...

1. Seems to the most obvious... exposure. He had no camp presence. Further, more times than not your coach highly responsible for shopping you, especially your film. The issue is compounded when you don't play for a great team.

2. If you look at Buchanan's film from his junior year, Nick's body was completely different. While it looks like he has a little bad weight, and needs to tighten up... his frame has grown and he's grown into his body a lot in one year. And it would explain why he wasn't a known commodity coming into this season. And probably a reason why he nobody knows anything about him having a camp presence, or if he was even invited to one. When you're a late bloomer and desperately need exposure, your coach must be your best friend and advocate.

3. An angle nobody talks about. Sale may be used to looking at rougher clay at McNeese State. He was not going to woo a big time blue chipper there. And he necessarily had to look at some scraps that big time programs didn't want. Maybe he's seeing something in Buchanan the other big programs aren't. It may also be a case where he see's something that looks good to him, coming from a smaller school... that wouldn't look good to a OL coach who's coached in the SEC for a while... and might not look as good to him after he's been here a while. This situation immediately made me think of Coach Friend getting here and offering Chester Brown.
