A little perspective before bed time....

So, as of this post, our Dawgs (4-3) are sitting all by our lonesome in 6th place in the SEC. We have the sixth best record overall (11-6) out of all the teams in our conference (again, not tied with anyone).

The five teams ahead of us? #5 A&M, #20 KY, UF, LSU, and SCe. I'd wager 90% of this board would concede all five of those teams would be mortal locks for the NCAA tournament if the season ended today. And there we sit, the next team up....

So, where does that put us? Who the hell knows. I don't. My name isn't Lunardi. I'm not a bracketologist. I do feel pretty confident saying that it at least leaves us in a position where we have a chance to play our way in...

...Not that you'd know it if you get all your UGA Hoops perspective around here. If you listen to the routine poster, we are on the "bubble of the now-watered down NIT that now takes all the teams with winning records who don't make the Big Dance". The sky is falling! It's year seven, people--time to FIRE THE HEAD COACH! Kessler is Brantly (sic); Brantly (sic) is Kessler; Kessler's a man?! Our HC is idiotic--we won the game Saturday, he smartly called for a foul to prevent them from even having an attempt from 3 to tie the game, and yeah, we won a thriller at home, but Fox still lacks the 3 NCAA appearances in 4 years that both Harrick and Tubby got...but in fact never got. We must play more zone or the world will explode! Our RPI before the win on Saturday was a meager 62...that's not even workable...we suck! Auburn has a new stadium and new cheater head coach and they---wait...no, they still have an inferior record both in conference and overall--again, not that you'd know it from all the Bruce Pearl bromance posts.

That we are in sixth place in a major conference of 14 teams, yet somehow so many folks are unable to take anything positive away from this season or are only able see negatives every single game absolutely amazes me.

Like I said the other day, two rules of fan boards: 1) They attract the most ardent fans, so if you want to communicate with knowledgeable folks, that's where you can find them and engage with them. 2) They also attract the most negative, irrational, and idealistic fans, so you cannot get the upside of Rule #1 without the side effects of Rule #2. I said that before the game. Damn if we didn't win and the Barking Theorem held true even then. I'll be damned. It's a repeatable study. I think it's time to call it Yorkie's Law.

Had to get this out now. Dynamic season--things will be different after tomorrow; we are definitely likely to take the loss--RPI will be higher than it was before Arkansas regardless. All that said, the point is, there is a lot of good that can be taken from our season so far and even more to be excited for in the future when, yes, we will actually have a deep roster with legitimate SEC-D1 players at all 5 positions. We don't have that yet. We have so much room to grow the roster--we haven't even glimpsed the ceiling of this program under this Head Coach. We are sitting on three straight recruiting classes '14 (Maten alone does it), '15, and '16 that it's not too hard to feel good about...and 2015 and 2016 classes--ya know, the last two--promise to be the best two ever under this Head Coach. But, so many don't see the forest for the trees. To some, there is nothing to feel good about, no cause for optimism....it's all doom and gloom. And, those people are...(refer back to Part 2 of Yorkie's Law).
