Georgia basketball hires AAU coach with ties to five-star freshman Asa Newell
“Georgia basketball has added a new member for its support staff with ties to a Bulldog freshman who is one of the highest-ranked recruits in program history.
And it’s permissible under NCAA rules.
Darryl Hardin, who worked with five-star forward and NBA first-round prospect Asa Newell, was hired as the Bulldogs’ director of player development. Hardin was co-founder and coach at 1Family, an AAU basketball program in Central Florida…
Hardin’s role is permitted because he’s considered one of six individuals at Georgia who can coach (with only four permitted to recruit off campus at one time) and the IAWP rules (individual associated with a prospect ) don’t apply in that case under a rules revision.
Georgia sophomore forward Dylan James also played with 1Family. So did Jaden Newell, Asa’s older brother and a walk-on who was awarded a scholarship this offseason.
