NonDawg Advice Needed: On a scale of 1-5, how pissed off should I be. I cant tell so I am reaching out for the

OP is at the Fairfield Inn somewhere and they don’t have drinks. Man that sucks but the manager really can’t do anything about it beyond say “lol sorry” at that point. I’m all for people getting good service but what exactly is the manager supposed to do? Order him doordash
Like a 1? I mean maybe the manager could have been a little more sympathetic but what’d you want her to do? Drive you to wal mart?
If I had a guest on crutches, I would ask him what he needed, and let him know that I would have it taken care of in an hour or so...

I would order it via Doordash and then have it delivered up to his room, apologizing again for the inconvenience.

This is the hospitality business and it presents a great opportunity...if handled correctly, OP would have a great experience and then become a word of mouth billboard for this hotel in Detroit.

Obviously you speak from experience, savage
I do...I have been copied in on these types of emails to the CEO when my company screwed up...I would have to drop everything and do whatever it took to get the disgruntled customer happy...Anyone on the email chain that didn’t move at the right pace to get the CEO out of the line of fire from a consumer was in jeopardy of losing their job...

Wisdom of the Vent.

So, I am in lovely Detroit on business. I have had 3 knee surgeries in 6 weeks, my last being roughly 3 weeks ago. I am on crutches but doing ok. I "walk" to the lobby to hit the hotel pantry and they have no drinks. (Also no ice cream, but that doesnt apply here). The manager sees me and my struggles. I asked the Manager, a Marriott franchisee, about the lack of soft drinks or water and she said.......wait for it....."We dont really pay much attention to the drink cooler. There is a Walmart right over there (pointing). If you want something to drink, they have all you need"

Now, I am a pretty calm guy. I am also a Marriott Titanium Platinum Big Kahuna Top Tier member.

How pissed should I be? I think my compass is off because I wanted to say bad words to her.

You lost me at 3 knee surgeries in 6 weeks. What the hell have you been doing?

Pick me a sixer while you’re there. We’re in Rm 237.

Switch to Hyatt, OP...love them. I travel quite a bit and also plan award travel for others, especially using points and miles.

Here’s another person who recently got Bonvoy’d:

“The reader who shared this with me has spent approximately $30,000 with Marriott just so far this year. He overspent the breakfast allowance at this hotel by $3, commented on it, and reports that “the restaurant manager suggested I was trying to scam a free meal.” Marriott literally promises its Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador members a free meal!”

Consider myself a frequent traveler in the HGI/Courtyard type property. I never rely on the hotel for anything and have very low expectations. You are SOL. Also from my recent experiences service industries don’t really care about the customer right now. They’re pissed off being at work while their friends collect about same amount of money to not work.
You know, before the pandemic we were beyond “full employment” in this country. Meaning that not only did everyone who wanted a job have one, there was a significant number of people who had jobs even though they didn’t want one and hadn’t been in the workforce in years, if ever.

For example, I do a lot of in-person banking for multiple entities, etc. I just have an unusual need for in person banking whether it be for transactions, notary services, access to safe deposit boxes, etc. My primary brick and mortar bank (Regions) was hiring completely brain dead employees even prior to the pandemic. Now that people have significant financial incentives NOT to work (in addition to COVID fear) everyone is having a heck of a time getting competent help.

But, yeah OP that sucks. And traveling for business on crutches must suck out loud. I’d be grumpy as hayull if I were you.

Well @donalsonville_dawg , I dont stay at Fairfield. This one happens to be a new SpringHill Suites, not that its a flagship Marriott, but its better than most business class hotels. But if it were some 30 year old Courtyard, or Fairfield, or TownePlace, do your damn job. If you have a pantry, fill the thing. What should she do? Let me tell you. She should have taken her sorry ass to Walmart, bought a few Coke brands, or Pepsi since its Michigan, stocked the ****ing cooler with 50 cent drinks and sold them for $2...but hey, what do I know. Least of all, dont be a smartass about it. Feign some kind of "sorry" to the customer.

How about if you have drink fridge in your pantry that is supposed to be full of drinks...you take your lazy manager ass across the street to WalMart, buy a couple of 12 packs of soda and restock your fridge. Instead of telling your everyday customer to go to WalMart....much less telling your customer who has a obvious disability to go across the street. I guarantee if you talked to Marriott hierarchy, that is what they would expect their manager to do and I am sure they would even let them expense it.....but as others have mentioned, what the company wants and what the quality of employees nowadays are, seem to be drifting farther and farther apart. That fridge not having drinks, and the manager recommending WalMart, simply meant that manager really didnt want to do the job they were hired to do which is to not only run the hotel....but keep the people in the hotel reasonably happy. If OP went in looking for a steak....that is unreasonable and the manager can't fix that....but looking for a soda in your soda fridge seems like something that manager could handle.

PS Caveat to all this.....but it was Detroit so I guess OP is lucky manager didn't push him down and steal his wallet. Knowing with a bad knee, OP would never catch them. :)

I wouldn't waste my time getting mad. I would simply call and or email any and everyone in the chains management and capitalize on as many perks as I could get. As long as the room is clean and bug free, I consider that a win for me in today's environment because admins in the service industry in a lot of towns, and I'm sure Detroit is one of them, are just happy when 50% of the crew shows up for night shift. They aren't going to fire someone that is showing up for work and likely wearing a bunch of hats because on top of everything else, they neglected to fill up goody bags.

So, yeah, the service was bad and what is likely an over-worked and stressed out manager probably felt like they didn't have time to sweat every detail. A few yrs ago, that wouldn't have been acceptable but from an admin point of view, if they fire that manager, what are they going to get to replace them. It literally could end up being nobody.

I think I can see all sides of this. Obviously, this manager was over worked and absolutely awful at her job. Marriot is supposed to be a little better. That is why people have memberships. Certainly had better service than @MiddleTennDawg had at some super 8’s. It isn’t like my man is pissed because the hotel masseuse was double booked. All he wanted was a freaking drink. When you could literally get better service, in the service business, from a vending machine something may not be quite right. @MiddleTennDawg what in the hell did you do to yourself brother. Is living in Louisiana inherently bad for your knees. :)

Also don’t let @donalsonville_dawg fool you. Had you done more damage to your knee after walking over to the Walmart, he would have taken your lawsuit vs the Marriott immediately. :)

We are in Myrtle Beach and went to a restaurant in Surfside. Hostess said it would a 3 hour wait,. Waiter comes by and yells 4 hours.....They literally want to turn you away from their own establishment. I don't wait longer than an hour on anything outside of the pearly gates so we left.

I also heard the hostess telling a server at another restaurant that she stopped seating people 45 minutes before the placed closed. These people just don't think they need to work.

I also think people have gotten to used to getting an automatic 20 percent tip for simply existing. I'm about to go to 10 percent of they suck at their job. The ice cream shop girl in campground asks every time if I want to add a tip on my total. For scooping ice cream into a cup. I did the first time because I was put on the spot. Last night I said no thanks and it pissed her off. She probably shat in my cup

If this is is not a preview of what socialism will look like then I don't know what is.
