no nominations for a justice by prez bush during an election year . we know about schumer ; but biden also made the same statement , saw the video today. but now , the shoe is on the other foot ...............so we know what the politicians do, they lie and put their job and their party ahead of the country . we don't need a radical justice !

I think the "rub" was, McConnell, the Majority leader, coming out within a half hour of the announcement of the death, saying no nominee, don't even nominate. Made the death politcal immediately. Have seen many GOPers since saying that was a mistake.

Biden was Judiciary chair at the time and there was no vacancy, it was a statement made. He also presided over Reagan's Justice Kennedy nomination in an election year.

odimma announced he was going to nominate a replacement , McConnell was responding to that comment , he was not first . so who made it political ?

I don't think you're right... but I'm willing to be corrected if anyone has the actual dates and times.

My memory is of seeing Scalia's death on the news at dinner... then reading McConnell's "NO" statement when I got home and seeing Obama's "I'm gonna nominate anyway" the next day.

I saw it watching basketball about mid afternoon channel surfing during commercials. Next commercial or 2, saw Mitch's remarks. Obama held presser around 8 that night and was chastised for waiting so long while it was a holiday weekend. In his statement, he praised Scalia, gave rather lengthy details about him and that's when I learned Scalia and Ginsburg were best friends, raised their kids together. Who would have thought that?

Morning Joe, Scarborough particularly, ripped McConnell on Monday. FOR making it political immediately, but I think he was more incensed that by making it political, he backed the GOP into a corner so to speak.

Well again... feel free to correct me. I admitted up front that was how I remember it but anyone able to present a timeline showing my memory isn't correct can easily convince me I was wrong.

But saying "you're wrong" really isn't very convincing.

It's going to happen anyway. President Clinton or President Sanders will have a Democratic-controlled Senate, and will nominate former President Obama to the Supreme Court, and he'll be ratified in one day. You Reptilicans have truly gone full retard. You could get a centrist justice now, but by going full retard in blind hatred against the President, you're going to get a very progressive justice in 2017 and there will be nothing you can do about it.

While I can't find a timeline... all of the articles I found on Obama's statement talk about how the president didn't directly address McConnell's statement that no nominee would have hearings this year. That tends to suggest McConnell made his statement first.

I don't think you're right on this.

That's the point I swear
