folks let's tap the brakes a little bit. Look I am 100% with you in our disappointment with where this team stands right now. After walking out of Foley on the Saturday where we swept FSU and took the series I thought "this is a good looking team that can go places." Then we proceed to go get swept in Statesboro in 3 1-run games and it's been pretty much mediocrity ever since. With that said I still think this program is FAR better off than it was 2 years ago when Stricklin took over. For those of you that have so quickly forgotten here is Perno's final 4 years:
2010 16-37 (5-23 SEC)
2011 33-32 (16-14 SEC)
2012 31-26 (14-15 SEC)
2013 21-32 (7-20 SEC)
That's a total of 101-127 (42-72 SEC)
Avg record: 25-32 (11-18 SEC)
Meanwhile in 2014 Stricklin went 26-29-1 (11-18-1 SEC)
Looks pretty dang similar to me... Look we STUNK over the final years of the Perno era and that's a fact. Sure he had success early in his career (in part due to Polk) but it fell apart after 2009 and we became a mess. Stricklin inherited that mess and I for one as a LONG time supporter (early 90s) am far from ready to throw in the towel on this new staff. I LOVE the upgrades to Foley (other than the excessive amount of space dedicated to handicapped seating on both 1st & 3rd base sides) and think they will pay dividends for us as a program moving forward. We aren't better right now, but we ARE better off as a program and brighter days are ahead. If you disagree that's fine, but the facts simply don't back you up. It was time for Perno to go and the book on Stricklin is definitely not yet written.
