good lately. I am looking into spending about $100 with Amazon for some good Summer reading selections. I like non-fiction and fiction. Any recs appreciated.

May not interest you but Stephen King's Bachman Books still one of

my favorites. It was four stories, probably novelettes I guess. Some good stuff. The Running Man was part of it. Of course, Hollywood RUINED an awesome story on that one.

Bill O'Reilly's Killing Patton is superb if you have any interest in WWII. His Killing Kennedy and Killing Jesus are also very good, but to me the Patton book is his best. And I am definitely no O'Reilly fan.

A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth......

it'll take you all summer to read. Great tale of several Indian families set in the 1950's, based on real people. Very interesting culture.

My reading pretty much exclusively consists of Christian non-fiction.

Having said that, the best non-Biblical book you'll ever read is "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis.

Pretty close second to that is "My Utmost For His Highest" by Oswald Chambers.

Both are super books, power-packed with very well-written truth.

Do you ever look at the bargain book tables at Barnes and Noble? I

can always find a bunch of good reading at reduced prices.

Ha - I took a couple of programming courses at Athens Tech ..

in late 90's. Visual Basic and Introduction to java. I am not a programmer. I dropped the Java course. I forced myself to complete the Visual Basic course and even made a B in it, but sadly code is not my bag. My ADD brain darts around too much for it. I imagine some ADD brains are good at it, but my brand of ADD rejects it. You have to half like something for the ADHD brain to lock in on it and focus. Or take about 50 milligrams of Adderol.

Have gotten into John LeCarre's tales of George Smiley & "the Circus", the

British overseas intelligence agency. The movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy might ring a bell.

No, but I will - have you been to that used media place at the old K-mart .

on the Atlanta Hwy? Books, games, DVD, music etc .... My brother said I would dig the place. They buy and sell. I might ride over there today with a few books I can't sell on Amazon. If they give me .50 a book then I'll probably just let them go and go get some McDonalds with the 5 dollar profit. My mom likes the place, too, and I got her to take some of my DVDs over there just to see what they'd pay for those, but they didn't offer jack for them and wanted to buy them all in a lump sum DEAL. I told her to bring them on home. I might take some of them back up there in the future, but only one or two at a time so I know what I'm getting.

No, I have been meaning to take some books and old movies in

to see if I could trade them. I forget about that place. Thanks for reminding me.

I read Salem's Lot in the 5th or 6th Grade ...

Scared Hell out of me. Loved the minieries with David "Hutch" Soul at the time. Have not seen it in years. Would probably suck to me now. Not the book, but the miniseries. I've read a bunch of Stephen King books, mostly his older ones from the 70's and early 80's. Carrie, The Shining, Salem's Lot, Cujo, Firestarter etc .....

Reading American Sniper

Definitely recommend it. A good bit different than the movie.

Anything by Elmore Leonard. And get a subscription to "Tin House," a periodical of great short stories. Also check out the online periodical, "Bitter Southerner," gist being we're tired of all the usual typecasting foisted upon us by media and Hollywood.

One of my best friends got it from his FIL for Christmas ..

He is no reader, but he read it to get his FIL off his back. He loved it. I honestly don't think O'reilly writes very much of those books anyway. I think the co-author, listed in the very small type on the front cover, does 95% of the work and Bill takes all the credit.

Re: One of my best friends got it from his FIL for Christmas ..

Probably correct. I really don't like O'Reilly. The Patton book is a page turner if you have any interest in the Battle of the Bulge. I'm only half way through. I think the profits go to charity, so you don't have to worry about subsidizing that jerk (JMO).

I've read the Essays and the bio. Loved them both. That said. The bio

Is an excellent read. He'd have prolly been on the CHATS.

Thanks, really enjoyed the flik, but the books have a depth that cannot be

garnered from the screen play.

Black Terror, White Soldiers by David Livingstone

Gonna re-read "Pimp" and "Trick Baby" by Iceberg Slim, because UJD.

Dave Eggers - You Shall Know Our Velocity!
Phillip Roth - American Pastoral
Jennifer Egan - A Visit From The Goon Squad
Michael Chabon - The Yiddish Policemen's Union

Keef, if you have read those King books, I HIGHLY suggest the Dark Tower

series. Now that it is complete, would be a heck of a series to dig into, the 4th "The Wizard and the Glass" is one of my all time favorites.

I also started reading the Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown. The 2nd in the series came out in January, "Golden Son". If you want some non fiction and enjoy military/intelligence genre, "Ghost Wars" is worth a read, it follows Afghanistan from the 60's until Sept 10th 2001. Great read to learn how jacked up that place is(I spent 28 months there)

The Tragedy and Triumph of Phenix City, Alabama..........

by Margaret Anne Barnes...........almost unbelievable true story of what was known as the "Sin City" of the South, just across the Chattahoochie River from Columbus, GA............General George Patton threatened to take his Fort Benning tank brigade and blow it down..........the Alabama Attorney General elect was murdered there...........Judges, lawyers, the law, the politicians were part of the corruptness.........martial law was imposed..........National Guard moved in..............the bad guys that didn't die of old age moved on to Tennessee and became the mob that made Sheriff Buford Pusser famous for fighting them.........unreal true story IMO..........

Jack Reacher or Mitch Rapp. Digging Reacher a bit more now.

I watched the movie before reading any books, knocked out about 6 of them them then rewatched the movie. It was still pretty good and I picked up on a lot more of his personality throughout the movie.

Good stuff
