Scalia's death could not have come at a worse time for our dysfunctional, "Gong Show" government. Ugly will not be enough to describe how things will be over the next 8 months. Not sure SNL can make it funny any more.
It's bad the last debate just let trump atack others it's bad. Both sidesScalia's death could not have come at a worse time for our dysfunctional, "Gong Show" government. Ugly will not be enough to describe how things will be over the next 8 months. Not sure SNL can make it funny any more.
It depends I think they hold the seats. If sanders is running. It also depends who he picks and also hilrey. Prosecution I don't think voters care about the senate blocking the vote.Oh... the uglier it is in reality the funnier it will be on SNL.
As it is... I think the GOP was dumb on this one. By flat out stating that they won't consider any nominee regardless of how conservative they might be, they've signaled this is entirely about partisanship.
They could have waited until Obama nominated someone and then panned them as liberal and refused to confirm them... and they could have pinned the blame on Obama. But by coming out ahead of time and saying it doesn't matter, they've accepted the fact that a seat on the supreme court will be vacant for over a year entirely because of their obstructionism.
Democrats will be able to use that against GOP candidates for the senate in states like Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nevada, Colorado, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Missouri. 7 of those 9 seats are currently GOP held... and those states are much less likely to cheer blatant obstructionism to keep "the other side" from winning. The people deciding those elections don't view either side as the "enemy" so blatant partisan politics doesn't work as well. If Kelly Ayotte, Mark Kirk, Pat Toomey, Rob Portman or Ron Johnson endorse McConnell's "block everyone" plan... it hurts them badly in the general election.

Peope Like trump get elected rich people think. I can run for senate or get a guy to run. That's the only wayMcConnell and Reid and so many of the other usual faces in DC simply creep me out, and I am a creep. The real comedy and tragedy within our "system" of government is how completely burdened it is by all the special interests influence. It's almost as if there are so many different points of view to consider and to pacify that NOTHING substantial or efficient or effective EVER gets done! And we the people just shrug and/or wink and giggle and say "there they go again," like we're watching a freaking cat video. Will we ever see effective, productive and efficient government in action? And at what cost?

So you believe this only plays one way? More Americans care about who's on the Court than you think. And seeing how they re-wrote the obamacare law twice. Ppl don't want another left wing unqualified kook on the courtOh... the uglier it is in reality the funnier it will be on SNL.

If that happens you want have a pot to piss in. Pug will look like a refugee just off the boat. Not to mention that Ted Cruz will have a hard time campaigning from a seat on the Judiciary Committee. Trump will be able to hang the obstructionism on Cruz and his candidacy is doomed.
The smart play would be for the Republicans to accept a centrist judge like Srinivasan and cut their losses. Unfortunately the Republicans have gone full retard and they will lose the Senate, the White House, and up to 3 Supreme Court seats during the Clinton or Sanders administrations.

Ps I think Rubio keeps his senate seat. I think trump will tie a nose around the dems. And say you want 4 more years of there shit.
I think moderates are more concerned about congress doing their job then they are about the court's ideology. One of the most effective democratic attacks on the GOP is when they accuse them of blocking everything for partisan reasons rather than letting congress vote as was intended. Just like one of the most effective attacks for the GOP against the Democrats is when they accuse them of working outside of the rules in the constitution to implement policy.
In fact, the GOP often uses the later to effectively defend themselves from the former. But in this case they can't... because they're the ones who are ignoring the constitution.
You are welcome to try to win elections without moderates. In about 15-20 states the GOP can do just that. Similarly... there are 15-20 states where democrats can similarly largely ignore moderates in elections. But the other 10-20 states... you can't. And those determine control of the senate and the white house. And the GOP move is not likely to appeal to moderates.... just their base.
As I said... they COULD have done the same thing (made sure no Obama nominee got confirmed) without making themselves look obstructionist. The stupid part was they didn't give themselves cover with moderates because they announced what they were doing. It's just... dumb.
