Any of y'all ever tried to detox??*

So far.....

The bride asked me if I would do what amounts to a detox with her for 30 days. We started in the middle of January. As of today, I have lost 27 pounds and three inches off my waist. It has changed my outlook on what and how I eat, which I sorely needed. It will be interesting to see what my (always high) cholesterol score is when I go the doc later in the month. I did not stop after 30 days, because I had some really good momentum going and I wanted to see if I could get back down to a good weight for me.

It is essentially a meat, dairy, gluten and sugar free diet. I can eat all the fruits and veggies I want. I get protein from hummus and black beans (which can be really good with some onions and guacamole on a baked sweet tater believe it or not).

It uses Juice Plus Complete™ as a base. Google is your friend.

Before I started, I took one or more heartburn meds every day. I used to eat Advil like candy. Since the middle of January, I don't remember taking any heartburn meds and the only Advil I have taken was to cover a little back pain

I may try it.......

The only thing that really bothers me, is that my knee pain has got worse through the years. I take a couple of aleeves to help, I would eventually like to quit. BP, cholesterol and measurables are fine...but some arthritis in my knee. I have been lucky with my weight, same since HS, but I work out all the time....because I enjoy it. Sugar is my problem, I crave sweets....especially after I drink a beer or two.

It took a couple of weeks, but I quit craving the sweets as much

I love cookies...any kind. Don't really want them nearly as much any more. I was a Coke a-holic. Drank my first Co-Cola since mid January the other day and it almost tasted bad to me.

The reason it is 30 days is that it takes about that long to break bad habits and develop new, better habits. I have found that what we want or like to eat is largely conditioned behavior or just a habit which can be altered with a little effort.

I quit cold turkey 10 yaers ago after heavy drinking for many years. I just decided it was time and that was that.

I thought he was talking about diet ...

I have pretty much quit drinking and I love it. I'll still BURN 3 or 4 with you, though.

Re: I thought he was talking about diet ...

Didn't give up everything. Dipping was harder to give than dranking.

Trying right now. Started having sleep apnea issues, ....

Doc asked how much I drink and when I told her she damned near fainted. So we start this negotiation for allowed daily drinks and I start at 8 and she starts at 0. We end up at 2, which I stretch to 3 since I negotiated so poorly. Have actually started sleeping better. No joy in this 60 year old crap.

Re: I thought he was talking about diet ...

I can't toot my own horn about the drinking. I was ready and didn't find it hard at all. I was a blackout liquor alcoholic anyway - I was never one of those case a day beer alcoholics. I think it's harder for them in a lot of ways. I just got tired of blacking out and also for feeling like shit for three days after a drunk.

4.5 years sober from all drugs and alcohol. It was a serious problem. 2 years off of cigarettes. Now I've got to get off the Blue Bell ice cream.
