that they won the title. I was looking through their schedule.
They opened up against no. 3 Pittsburgh on the road and won what looked like an impressive victory. That Pitt team finished 3-7-1. The vaulted them from unranked up to 13 and they just kept rising with that schedule as teams in front of them would lose.
Here is their schedule for that year.....
Pitt (3-7-1). W 20-14
Baylor (5-6) W 47-13
Tulsa (6-5) W 38-15
Hawaii (7-4) W 18-13
Colorado St. (3-8) W 52-9
Wyoming (6-6) W 41-38
Air Force (8-4) W 30-25
New Mexico (4-8) W 48-0
UTEP (2-9) W 42-9
San Diego St. (4-7-1) W 34-3
Utah (6-5-1) W 24-14
Utah State (1-10) W 38-13
Michigan (6-6) W 24-17, Holiday Bowl. (I think their conference champ had to play in it. But why couldn't they find them someone better to play?)
Pitt was the only team they played ranked at the time of the game and no team on their schedule finished ranked in the final poll.
Should've been forced to play a ranked team in the bowl game. That must've sucked for Washington.
