anybody ever had,and cured, shoulder impingement?

S

Son was a pitcher years ago and started having shoulder pain. No structural damage but basically a loose shoulder joint, impingement. Tried physical rehab to tighten the shoulder muscles, no better. Finally decided to have surgery where they went in and tightened the joint and used heat to shrink tissue. To make a long story short he was never able to throw with any velocity and had to quit playing. I've seen stories about pro pitchers, Smoltz I believe, who had chronic impingement and even said it was beneficial as long as there was no pain. Hope your situation fares better than ours. We were told the surgery was usually 80% effective, we just happened to be in the 20%.

I was treated for an impingement after hitting a snow covered rock and crashing a snowmobile in the late 90s.
Over time the pain traveled down an arm into My hand. It was a cervical disk all along. Turns out neck injuries are often misdiagnosed as shoulder problems. I have no idea of the circumstances or whether Your pain travels into the arm, just relaying an experience.

Yes actually...I used to pitch in college and professionally but continued playing in amateur leagues when I was older and had the condition pop up. I was thorough on doing my rotator cuff exercises (some of which were not widely known) at least 3 times a week. But on top of that...olympic lifts were extremely important to me as well as it didn't do me a whole lot of good just doing the cuff work, I needed to strengthen the muscles around the cuff. So following this regimen (not thoroughly detailed I know) I was still able to throw in the low to mid eighties at 44 years old.

Yes, went to a friend that is a chiropractor who specializes in extremities. Adjustments, muscle work/massage, a few exercises, and hydrotherapy by way of the gym hot tub waterfall. No problems last four years.
