I'm curious as to who everyone in here recommends to cover your personal autos and homeowners for insurance? Are you sold on captive agents or trust independents to handle your assets?

We have used Farm Bureau, Progressive and Alfa and been fortunate to not have any claims to speak of.

I am an independent agent and have mine with Auto Owners.

Insurance rates vary greatly from individual insured to individual insured.

Shop and get at least 4 quotes. Watch that the coverage is the same, especially the Homeowners. There are about six different policies. Also what is their Hurricane (Cyclone) deductible? What about their roof replacement coverage. Some policies are replacement cost but depreciated cost on roofs and hurricanes.

Roofs should always be ACV, but Georgia probably won’t ever allow insurance companies to do that.

I have never wanted to move over to State Farm. I have connections with Farm Bureau and Alfa agents. Close well off friends have been sold on Auto Owners for years.

Over the years, I have paid about 15 years of house insurance premiums for 2 houses,....I have had an oak tree fall on the house from hurricane, car wreck on the front door of another house, and squatter vandalism once, total damages maybe 50k that came out of my pocket.

I received 0 dollars over 15 years in insurance payouts of these events but I paid close to 40k in insurance premiums for protection,

So 5 years ago I decided to stop paying home insurance,....that's 15k now in my pocket that would have otherwise been given away,...

If you trust a renter or caretaker of a property,...and you own something completely without compulsion because of a loan,...then it's worth while to consider going without insurance

It’s all about risk tolerance. You have a high tolerance for risk and mine is lower. I’d still prefer to pay a couple hundred dollars a month to make sure if something takes my home down I can receive the help to rebuild it.

Who are you? I’m in Warner Robins and I Know several right now that aren’t happy with SF in the area. Lol
My dad has SF for both home and auto and maybe he got lucky, but they've done a good job taking care of the damages to his home and yard caused by Hurricane Helene.

I think it’s adjuster dependent for the most part. My experience is with their claims handling as much as it is with their policies I see their agents writing. I regularly see SF policies come across my desk and they often make me cringe.
