Best offensive coordinator: Richt or Bobo

Let the COACH coach

National Champion

Coach Richt won two national championships at FSU coaching the offense as offensive coordinator.

Coach Richt won two SEC titles from 2001 through 2006 as the offensive coordinator at the University of Georgia - and he was also the head coach.

Coach Richt was forced to hire an offensive coordinator after a bad unlucky patch of game is late 2006 because the Dawg fan based blamed the losses on his play calling and offensive schemes.

Mike Bobo was hired - never before an offensive coordinator.

And UGA never won again won an SEC championship during the Richt era.

What if the fan base had actually let the one of the best proven offensive minds in college football continue as offensive coordinator?

Do you think he would have continued his exemplary record of two national championships and two SEC championships?

So who is the better offensive coordinator? Mark Richt or Mike Bobo?

No, we had serious red zone issue with Richt as OC. It was BVG's defense that was really the difference. We moved great, yardage wise, but always bogged down inside the 20. Bobo scored points, as time went on, a lot of points. Problem then switched after BVG and our D was bad, at times awful, under WM and Grantham.

Thanks for your serious reply other than "up yours."

And I understand what you are saying. But it took awhile for Bobo to become proficient. How many SEC championships did we miss out on while he was training on the job?

And you can look at any offense or offensive coordinator at any point in time and come up with a weakness. But just because of some bad games in late 2006 you want to put a guy in as offensive coordinator with no experience versus the magnificent track record of Mark Richt - two national championships at FSU and 2 SEC championships in 6 years at UGA.

Do you think you well ever find someone with that track record to coach UGA's offense?

And what sense does it make to hire a defensive guy when it is the offense that underachieved?

And you think hiring the guy that Richt trained, i,e, Bobo is going to be better than Richt?

None of this makes any sense. Butts Mehre is just yielding to fan pressure - who don't know what they are talking about.

If you want a national championship program you need to hire a top offensive guy, a la Vince Dooley's advice; give him the keys to the building, an ample budget, and an opportunity to get more money if needed for hires, facilities, etc. and let him coach.

You don't need a proven qualified coach to be continually reacting to, and attempting to placate an uninformed and unknowledgeable fan base.

I firmly believe if the Dawg Nation would have let Mark Richt coach and not attempt to micro manage him - they would have gotten what they want.

Unfortunately, I don't think UGA will ever get what the fan base wants because they are not going to let it. They are going to continually criticize and go ballistic at every perceived mistake and keep Butts Mehre and the coaching staff reacting with short term fixes or taking steps they otherwise not take - just to placate the fan base and keep them appeased.

If you want a great football program - let the people who know football build it for you

Oh good lord. Right leaving was the right move, I think for both UGA and him. Bobo, goodness, Richt is gone and you guys still want excuses for Richt, didn't cause us to miss anything, Richt promoting, then sticking with Willy and then going with Todd did. Yes, Bobo got better as years went on, foreign concept to a Richt apologist, as he had gotten worse.

Maybe and maybe not - but the fact remains UGA did a lot better when Mark Richt was left to practice his craft.

And maybe Marintinez's system might have finally jelled.

If you had fired Vince Dooley after the poor 1979 season - like a lot of the Dawg Nation wanted, you wouldn't have that 1980 championship.

You wouldn't tell a surgeon how to operate on you - why do you think you know more about coaching than an accomplished coach at the top of his game - 2 SEC championships out of 6 seasons.

As I said - hope springs eternal. The prospect of change brings new hope but is only an evil temptress if an uninformed but zealous and loud fan base tries to micro manage the program.

No the worm turned and things never seemed to be able to climb the mountain when the fan base forced Richt to get another offensive coordinator.

My point is that prospectively if you don't let the coach, coach, the same thing is going to happen. When you let him coach he won 2 SEC championships in 6 years. When you started micro managing him, another was never won.

Get another hobby other than criticizing the coach - let a proven successful coach, coach; and you will get what you want.

Actually, no, his "craft" was offensive, but Bobo averaged more points per game. Richt's job, was head coach, and he bungled two defensive hires. The first after BVG left to be a HC, the other, by is own admittance, by being to loyal for to long with WM.

I would look at a surgeons track record, and past 10 years, his hasn't been what it was, past 7 its been bad in the big games, past 5..against anyone ranked or with winning record its been bad.

Odd, Richt said his plan from early on was to mold an OC eventually. He found one he liked, he molded him, and he did well. You're cherry picking here. The tide turned, pretty much when BVG left town. If he wants to practice his "craft," go be an OC, not an HC.

It's not the last ten years - it is 2001 through 2006 in which he was allowed to coach his own way. And he won 2 SEC championships in 6 years. After the fan base inter meddling - he didn't win another.

So Bobo scored more points his later years - after his training. How many SEC championships could have been won if Bobo wasn't being trained on the job.

And Richt's record speaks for itself - apparently the number of points was sufficient because he won 2 SEC championships in 6 years as offensive coordinator.

Bobo won none.

That's right - so why remove him as offensive coordinator? You hired him because of his offensive acumen - not because of his administrative abilities. If you think he had lost his offensive touch - fire him and get someone new.

But don't inter meddle and say we don't want you to be the offensive coordinator when that is his strength and the reason you hired him in the first place.

The OP seems to come to a wrong conclusion as to the cause of Our not winning an SEC title after 2005. It was mostly about defense, not offense.
We won with very conservative offense because of VanGorder's defenses.

NO, BOBO SCORED MORE POINTS FROM FIRST SEASON AS OC ON. You are changing my words, and are a troll. Bobo got better. He scored more than Richt first seasons, but he took it to the next level, he kept getting better, hence why he got a shot at being a Head coach. Troll...good lord, you actually blame fans for Richt....do yourself a favor..you seem nice enough, but your ego on what you think you "know" versus reality...big wide canyon there.

You just said i was right, quoting, that right said he wanted to mold an OC. He did that, he brought bobo in as qb coach, and then molded him. He wasn't forced out. Something tells me...mid20's mentally...may be older, but mentally, you're not. The defense was the problem until really this year since 05. We lost our DC, we made bad hires consecutively. Yet, you still want to blame Bobo...holy crap...

I told you moron Disneys to get off this board by 3pm. Listen hear Let the dumb Corch Corch, this is a site for University of Georgia football fans not Mark Richt Lovers. Now step back from moms computer and get back to your Mark Richt scrapbook !
