The Black team rallied back to post a 4-3 win Friday and even the Fall World Series at Foley Field.

Freshman centerfielder Tucker Bradley began the game with a 10-pitch at bat for the Red team and drew a walk from sophomore left-hander Kevin Smith. Freshman shortstop Cam Shepherd followed with an opposite field blast to stake the Red team to a 2-0 advantage. The Black team tied the contest in the bottom of the second as junior shortstop Trey Logan (2-for-3) smacked an RBI-double and freshman designated hitter/pitcher James Williams picked up an RBI on a groundout off sophomore Shane Tucker.

Junior left fielder Keegan McGovern (2-for-3, 2 RBI) gave the Black team its first lead of the series with a tremendous two-run shot to right center in the bottom of the third. The Red team looked to answer in the top of the fourth putting two men in scoring position with nobody out. Smith battled back to strike out junior Mitchell Webb. The Black team went to the bullpen and freshman James Williams responded with a pair of strikeouts, retiring sophomore Logan Moody and freshman Mason Meadows to maintain the two-run lead.

The Red team made it a one-run contest in the fifth as catcher Michael Curry smashed an RBI-single off the glove of freshman third baseman Aaron Schunk that made it 4-3. With two outs, the bases were loaded for Webb, and Williams came back to register his fifth strikeout of the night.

Defensively, sophomore first baseman Adam Sasser and Logan turned a nifty double play on a hard grounder to end the top of the third. Also, the game ended on a 5-4-3 double play as Schunk fielded a hard grounder on the third base line off the bat of Curry and fired a strike to freshman Will Proctor at second to force out junior Will Campbell (1-1, 3 walks) and then threw to sophomore Patrick Sullivan to retire Curry at first. Junior right-hander Blake Cairnes tossed two shutout innings for a save as Smith got the win. Sophomore Trevor Tinder provided 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Red team.

“I’m very happy with the way we’ve played so far,” Georgia’s Ike Cousins baseball coach Scott Stricklin said. “We need to clean up a few of the little things, we’ve had a few errors in the middle of the diamond on pickoff attempts. Overall, we’ve got a very talented group, and I feel good where we’re at right now.”

The series concludes Sunday with a winner-take-all seven-inning contest. First pitch will be at 1 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
