-The Black team defeated the Red Team 9-2 Sunday to capture the Fall World Series at Foley Field.

Freshman right-hander Tony Locey dominated the Red team with four scoreless and hitless frames and seven strikeouts for the win. He allowed just one base runner, a two-out walk to sophomore Patrick Sullivan in the second inning. Freshman centerfielder Tucker Maxwell smashed a home run and collected four RBI to lead the offense. The Black team claimed the series two games to one after dropping the opener this past Thursday.

On Sunday, the Black team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. They loaded the bases when Maxwell (2-for-3, 4 RBI) was hit by a pitch to start the game, and then freshman Aaron Schunk and sophomore LJ Talley notched base hits. Junior Keegan McGovern (2-for-4, 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases) smacked a two-run single to centerfield and freshman Austin Biggar added a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring off freshman left-hander Justin Glover.

“The Black team won the series so they will be getting steak served to them by the Red team, and they have to clean up too,” said Georgia’s Ike Cousins baseball coach Scott Stricklin. “They showed tremendous fight, and Tony set the tone for them today. After they lost the first game, he said they will be ready to fight back, and he backed it up. He competes and comes right at you. ”

Glover went three innings and then the Red team turned to sophomore Adam Goodman. He tossed a perfect fourth frame before allowing two unearned runs in the fifth on an RBI-double by Maxwell and an RBI-groundout by Schunk.

Sophomore left-hander Addison Albright started the fifth inning for the Black team, and the Red squad scratched across a run on two walks, two hits and an error. Sophomore Logan Moody (2-for-4, 1 RBI) picked up an RBI-single to get the Red team on the scoreboard. With one out and the bases loaded, Albright managed the frame and avoided any further scoring.

Freshman right-hander Tim Elliott came on to start the sixth for the Red team and surrendered a two-out, three-run home run to Maxwell to make it 8-1. In the bottom of the frame, the Black team brought in freshman right-hander Christian Ryder, and he pitched a perfect inning. Elliott went 1.2 innings and redshirt senior Eddie Kongquee registered the final out of the seventh. Junior left-hander Ryan Avidano came on for the Black team and handled the seventh frame. Kongquee got the first out of the eighth and then after a pair of walks, freshman right-hander Zac Kristofak came on to finish the game, going 1.2 innings with one unearned run and two strikeouts. Junior right-hander Blake Cairnes pitched the ninth for the Black team.
