Isn’t this year 16 for Thomas Davis, or starting the 16th year. Also, Ben Jones starts his 9th year...

Fran was the man! One of my faves in the NFL as a young man.
I saw the first NFL game in Atlanta, and no, it wasn’t the Falcons. It was a preseason game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers, basically to see how the NFL pro game would go over in Atlanta. I believe it was in 1965. The AFL Denver Broncos played the Houston Oilers and the Dallas Texans played the Oakland Raiders in the second one.
Two years later, the AFL was really hot on Atlanta, and the NY Jets played the San Diego Chargers. I assume these games were played on Grant Field, because Atlanta Stadium wasn’t there yet. Some businessmen, led by Cox Communications actually were rewarded with an AFL franchise.
Pete Rozelle, the NFL commissioner came to town and The city also voted to go with the more established league, with the franchise going to Rankin Smith with a price tag of 8.5 million dollars. Just some interesting history about the NFL coming to Atlanta.
