As far back as 2004, the issues began. His first betrayer was Rodney Garner. Garner not only sold himself as the Svengali of black athlete recruiting, but also as a Community Activist within the team(s) lucky enough to secure his services. He insured buy-in of agendas, prevented inevitable mutinies, etc. CMR bought this and the extended warranty.

Garner's real talent was romancing the unwed 33 year old mothers of 17 year old recruits. This faded as he got older and fatter, but remains to some degree today. In any event, Garner very effectively used this leverage against CMR. Every year, threatening to leave. More money please. More title, please. Asst. HC please. THis didn't set well with Brian Van Gorder and at least contributed to his departure.

Enter Willie Mart and the decline is in full swing.

Neil Callaway leaves for reasons similar to BVG. We haven't had an effective OL coach since.

Jon Fabris is allowed to turn special teams into a vaudeville act for a few years.

Todd Grantham. Initially another savior. An NFL coach unable to recruit or do the menial college coach task of instruction on little issues like tackling.

Dave Van Halanger after initially rebuilding the S&C to excellence, retires without letting anyone know. He & John Eason continue to draw big salaries despite doing virtually nothing for years. Mat drills go away.

Hound dog loyal Joe Tereshinski is named S&C coach with virtually no background in the area.

Half assed recruiting. Player departures. Players given full releases to transfer to rival schools. Meanwhile, everybody in the SEC and elsewhere get real serious about being good and we sit tight. The "Georgia Way" is the purity shield we hide behind.

It took us a while to get here, but here we are.

Pretty good summary. Richt has always been slow to react to cancers on the team and incompetent coaches. It has always been against his nature to be an "in your face" type handling these issues.

The results have been he wins just enough to keep the money flowing from donors. I think that has now ended and the chickens have come home to roost. Rearranging the chairs on deck will not help much now.

Richt is no doubt a great recruiter, parents love the spill. No coaching ability at all, we have won out of sheer talent in-spite of very poor coaching. We haven't been able to tackle since Van Gorder left.

Did you see how well Florida tackles? We don't have that ability.

Why do you always have to go further than the truth just to insult Richt ? This is really the first time the offense hasn't been at least adequately coached. Richt is far from the useless idiot you claim him to be.
If Richt had hired the right OC we might actually be on the right path now, but he didn't, and we're not.

If I coulda, woulda, shoulda, typical Richt apologist.

I'm being real, and honest. You just can't seem to make yourself NOT overstate and needlessly insult.
Richt knows more about football than anybody on this board. He knows more about training QBs than 99% of college coaches do.
He just isn't quite where he needs to be in running this program.

You are seriously delusional. He may know a bunch, but one of those things is not how to be a head coach.

I wouldn't go that far, remember the years before Bobo at OC and then even his first year or 2, we chugged out yardage....but between the 20's...we had massive redzone issues for a while. Bobo came in, the offense was ok to above average for a while...stafford, moreno didn't light it up, but they did score...but then Bobo's last 3 years...its like he came of age and the offense lit it up, even last year we scored points pretty damn well.

He's managed to win 141 games coaching in the toughest conference in CFB. You think you know more than him and I'M DELUSIONAL ?

That said, he made a terrible hire in Schotty and now the two of them appear to be scapegoating Pruitt. Shockingly it seems to be working.

They aren't scapegoating Pruitt, Schotty is reported to be gone to...Richt is the one who will make that call and you defend him to the hilt. Supposedly Richt and Pruitt...well, and everyone from the secretary to the President of UGA can't get along with Pruitt...It has never been reported that it is an offensive staff problem with Pruitt...within the football program, its only be Richt vs Pruitt that is the issue.

Great post and so right on!

If Pruitt and the progress on defense is gone, there is NOTHING left of Richt's staff worthy of being retained.
If Richt can't work with the only plus on his staff, we need a new HC.

Most would argue Richt isn't worthy of being retained, and there are a few coaches worthy of being retained.

Pruitt hasn't made any tangible progress. Sure, he's marginally better than Grantham and Willie, so comparatively speaking he's done a good job. It's kind of like dating a girl who's ex was an abusive deadbeat - when the bar is low, it doesn't take much to look like Prince Charming.

Hard to say he is just marginally better, TG had full on cancers in the secondary and did not recruit well at ng and dt after motel 6 left.

Pruitt is having to replenish on top of being young and thin.

Pruitt shaved 10 pts off the numbers allowed per game his first year.
The organizational changes are very tangible and the 5 star DLs he's stocking are VERY tangible.
I have no doubt we were on course to having an amazing front 7 by 2017. Now the complacent losers have sabotaged the course and I won't be surprised if we lose Derrick Brown and maybe the top guys we have committed as well.
