He was already making 500K a year, and He'd get a hefty raise whether he stayed or came to UGA. I'm not sure partial retirement benefits from The State Of Alabama would mean much at His level.
I'm sure Saban pulled out all the stops though.

I had a funny feeling about Smart taking personel from Alabama. Why would Saban sit back and let Smart pluck his best coaches? I knew that wasn't going to happen.

This is a really odd situation for the next month. So far it seems like Kirby's tenure is functioning on a quantum level with particles jumping every which way with seemingly little order to it. Are We going to have any motivated coaches at Our bowl practices ?

What position would Napier coach ? I'm guessing receivers and recruiting coordinator. I'd like to take Tucker, lupoi ( bad spelling ?) and Napier. I want to keep Rocker, but it seems like Kirby would have put him on the recruiting trial if he were staying. I don't underestimate Saban though, he might keep them all.
Ya know, we never really heard rumors about this guy outside of "smarts and cochrans are good friends." To me this doesn't really matter, we already have a guy who was Cochran's right hand man. Sure, it'd been nice, i guess....just wasn't that worked up. Thought Richt hiring Hocke was a good move, was actually shocked that Kirby would replace him.
FYI, if not getting a strength and conditioning coach sinks Kirby's gameplan at UGA then we probably need to start looking for our next coach. It was the Schumann hire that was "Bama's secret weapon" and he got him. Plus, you don't think that all that time around Cochran didn't rub off on Kirby? He has seen what gets results so I imagine he would get someone here that could reproduce it.
I am agreeing with you. This board has made it seem like Cochran is more important to Bama than Saban and losing him is the beginning of the end for Smart. I think it is ridiculous.
A case of creatine and a bowflex will wash away the perceived loss of Cochran. In as little as 25 minutes a day, our Dawgs will transform into the beasts of college football.
Add in the shake weight every night before bed and they will be unstoppable.
