-Obviously, that's an awful way to start.... bad games happen, but like we say on Opening Night, they get magnified when they come at the beginning. What's really mind boggling is that LSU left the bases loaded three times and left 13 men on base overall. It could have been much worse than 22 runs.
-Alex Lange didn't have a lot last night, but credit our hitters too.... we did a good job against him... You have to capitalize when the an ace like that doesn't have his best stuff. I remember when we played Florida in 2015.... Logan Shore was way off his game on Friday night. We jumped him early, and our guy (David Sosebee) was able to keep them at bay and we won easily. I agree with Stricklin that putting 8 runs up against a guy like Lange really shouldn't come in a double digit loss...It sure didn't take long for our 4-0 lead to disappear also (in terms out outs, nothing about that game moved quickly)....
-I read that was most runs LSU has scored in an SEC game since 1998.... As a frame of reference, the last time that LSU put up a number like that on the scoreboard, Quincy Carter had yet to take a snap at UGA. Without trying to pile on, any time a program like LSU does something that they haven't done in basically two decades, you know it's been a bad night.
-Lot of pressure on Tony Locey tonight. We used a good bit of bullpen last night. Locey stood there for four hours last night and watched that output at the plate. That's got to be tough enough to know he's going to see those same hitters tonight, but also to know that he really needs to work deep into the game and save our bullpen for Sunday.
-The game reminded me of the SEC opener in 2010.... We hosted Auburn to start league play that year. We were a young team and had been struggling. Auburn was good, but not great. We took an early lead, as I recall, on a Peter Verdin home run. I remember feeling really optimistic about it at the time, thinking that we'd never give up that lead (which was only 1-0 or 2-0, I forget). We wound up losing 20-3... I can't say I was optimistic that 4-0 would stand up last night.... As good as they are in their lineup, I knew that we'd need to add to it.... And we did.... 9 really should have been enough.
-At the end of the day, it's just 0-1. We can't let last night beat us again today or tomorrow. Our hitters should take some confidence from last night and defensively, we played pretty well too. We handled the environment pretty well in that respect.
