-Disappointing. It never really felt like we were going to make a push in the game, the way that our ABs were going... To that end, we have gotten eight hits in the last two games. Skyler Weber has four of those. Way too many quick, easy innings last night.
-I don't understand playing Kieboom at 1st and DH'ing Nichols. While Nichols isn't a gold glover, he is the better defensive option. Stricklin has it in his head that Nichols is a liability with the glove, apparently.
-Likewise, I didn't understand bringing in Heath Holder when we did. If we use Bo Tucker today, who do we start Sunday? I thought Heath was the last guy in the bullpen we'd bring in for Tyler... Just didn't make sense. Heater did a really nice job though. That was the best that he has pitched since Lipscomb, easily, and I'm sure it was big for him mentally.
-On Tyler, I feel like you see it a lot and pro ball where a pitcher either throws a no-hitter work it's very close to doing it, the next outing is often below par. He was pretty good the first time through the order, but the second time he started getting barreled up.... It was a very noticeable difference the second time through. A&M may be the best lineup we've seen so far this year, also.
-I think we all figured we'd need to go 7-3 or 8-2 in Tyler's SEC starts if we were going to collect enough wins to get into the postseason. Last night dropped us to 2-2 in his starts in league play.
-I thought that the only two guys who really drove the baseball deep, to the point I'm about to reference, last night were Stephen Wrenn and Mitchell Webb. Both were outs, but hit hard. I flat out didn't understand pinch hitting for Webb with Patrick Sullivan. There was not a mathematical reason for it, there was not really an in game reason for it, and you are really putting Sullivan in position to succeed there anyway coming off the bench with guys on base. It really irked me. Last night was one of the more poorly coached games I can recall.
-All that said, we lost the first one last weekend and bounced back to win the series. A&M is a lot better than Alabama, but they aren't unbeatable. Need a big start from Conner Jones and need something from the middle and lower part of the order.
