It appears the prevalent opinion on this board is Coach Fox is incompetent for not recognizing Crump and Diatta are his best offensive options.

I too love Crump's instant offense. I also enjoy his exuberance when draining a three or a successful drive to the hoop. But, in truth we all love a scorer. Fox is a defense first coach. All players love offense, but Fox demands they produce effort and results on defense or you sit.

If you look at the only defensive stats available to us JJ averages a block or steal every 16 minutes of playing time Wilridge every 17, Harris every 22 and Turtle every 26 minutes. Crump on the other hand has no blocks and one steal in 144 minutes. Those are the stats we can see while on the other hand you can be assured coaches and support staff are breaking down film and watching each individual player through every possession.

With the exception of Harris (tied with Crump) all the aforementioned players also have better assist/turnover ratios than Crump. If you wonder why he was substituted for with four minutes left. There are better defenders that also protect the ball.

He has great upside and his minutes will continue to increase but there is more to it than points per minute.

Diatta will be much improved next year, but he is an average defender and often out of position. He is one of two players the veteran players are constantly repositioning when running plays. He is the most physically qualified player to sub at the four to give our three bigs a break. ( I don't count Kessler as a factor). But if he still hasn't learned the three spot by now, how are you going to teach him the four? Do you remember the game Harris crossed the half court line on the right and was trapped and proceeded to throw back court to Diatta, who for some inexplicable reason had stopped on the left side in the back court. Fox looked at them incredulously and said "What are you doing" then proceeded to call time out.

It's easy to look at scoring statistics and question a coach based on a players points per minute. But, I contend there are reasons players do or don't play other than coaches just completely not getting it.
