funds to sanctuary cities and Kates law by filibustering in the Senate. Harry Reid who is a vile man called it a “vile” law. It is amazing when Dems are in government control, the safety of the American people is always reduced.
Repubs should withhold any funds from the budget that is projected to go to the sanctuary cites. If dems want to shut down the govt because they don't want to enforce America's immigration laws, then a shutdown is on them. I think the repubs could win this fight. Will they fight?

what is a sanctuary city?[/QUOTE

"Sanctuary policies -- official or otherwise, result in safe havens (or safer havens) for illegal aliens involved in a variety of criminal enterprises -- since their illegal schemes are less likely to be uncovered and face less risk of deportation if caught by local law enforcement

Hade, how about I pick and choose which laws to obey and you pay for it, okay? We'll call it Hade's Hades.

what is a sanctuary city?

Many cities across the country have designated themselves as "sanctuary cities" beginning with LA in 79, then a big up tick in the 80s. It has no real legal authority. They are to not abide by federal laws on immigration. It's basically where police, employers, etc. cannot ask a minority their immigration status. Unless it's a violent crime.

There have been more federal laws put in place after 911. Such as Everify. The problem with the bill yesterday, was they wanted to restrict funds for hiring more police and the most ridiculous one, imo, for emergency disaster aid if one should occur.

Why would a lawmaker want to give a safe haven for criminals that are in this country illegally. The bums should be kicked out of office. Pretty disturbing actually.

sounds like the latest stance on marijuana and other illegal drugs....there's too many of them and it costs too much, so let's decide it's not illegal anymore

Lump,

What u say may be true but the resistance would evaporate if the dems got amnesty for illegals. That is the only thing Dems care about. Same with Kate's Law. There is no rationale for not instituting a mandatory prison term for aggregated felons who are deported and return.

I agree with your last sentence. I actually believe there should be something done when caught here illegally. But since the 80s, when the 1st wave of amnesty started under Reagan, gave them good reason to come on and ignore laws.

Now that said, I am for comprehensive immigration reform. There is no way you can expect 11 million will self deport. So......the bill that was on the table a couple of years ago, Ryan and Boehner were at first willing to go along, was a good one. 13 yrs before they would be eligible for citizenship and lots of hoops to jump through in the process. In the meantime, they'd be paying taxes, fines, learning English (was part of the deal), etc.

The comprehensive immigration bill did what the bill did under Reagan. It gave legal status to immigrants before the border was secured. Obama has not enforced immigration laws so has no credibility that he would follow thru. In fact, if he enforced immigration laws already on the books,, there would be no clamor for immigration reform. Practically speaking the best way to proceed, would be to deport criminal aliens then go after the thousands of illegals in gangs. Then enforce e-verify.

Eleven/Twelve million will not self deport, but approximately half would willingly if we enforced our current laws, stopped sanctuary cities, rounded up illegal alien felons, and threatened deportation to the rest of the illegal alien criminals. Half the battle solved. Build a border fence, e-verify, crack down on employers, all of the above approach on our immigration laws and a few years half of half of the battle solved. These Politicians have a responsibility to the CITIZENS of this country and should stop nullifying our laws and supporting the Illegal Alien Horde coming across our southern border freely. I absolutely expect this out of our Politicians and so should every other tax paying citizen. Absophuckinglutely. If not, things will only get worse.

In regards to this blocked sanctuary city bill- if Mitch 'no spine' McConnell would only suspend the filibuster rule to a simple majority, as Harry Reid did a few years ago, we could get a whole host of legislation thru to the President's desk, including repealing ObamaCare and the Iran Treaty. Republicans have the votes, but lack the will. Thanks a lot, Mitch!

McConnell agrees more with Reid and Obama than he does conservatives. Either that or he just doesnt want to make waves and doesn't want to be criticized by the media or dem colleagues. I despise him. I think he combined the 2 immigration bills instead of separating them so neither would pass. They could also suspend the filibuster rule, separate and pass the bills. Let obama veto them. Then defund sanctuary cities and .let Obama explain why he is shutting down the govt because he wants to help cities break the law and doesnt protect the American people from violent felons with Kates law. I think the American people would support repubs on that.

House needs to get rid of the Hastert rule too.

If Democrats are partisans first rather than protecting the men and women they represent, then it is up to Republican leadership to attach this to a must-pass bill, to actually pass it into law and solve the problem, not to talk about it but to do it. It is my hope that’s what all of us do together. I yield the floor.”

They will self deport or we should deport every single one regardless how long it takes. Its simple. You punish employers who knowingly hire illegals..and you make it punitive. You cut illegals off from all gov goods and services except actual emergency . if they show up in an ER with a cold...hit the bricks Pedro. No SS, no DL, no ID ..Nothing , zip , zero nadda. And they'll head back to their third world shitholes instead of turning our Country into one.

Problem is, the employers raised hell about having to verify, particularly farmers here in the south and all can buy their congressman or senator by threatening to cut off their campaign money or run someone against them. See Zaxby and Isaakson. "they do work Americans won't" was the excuse. At least with the bill a few years ago, they DID have to sign up, leave the country, come back legally, etc. and then there would be another 12 yrs before they could become citizens.
