Do you believe in right to work laws ?

Been both-preferred hourly. Made more money than company man.

States that DON'T have Right-to-Work laws are losing jobs to states that DO. Where are businesses going? To states that have Right-to-Work.
when gov walker got the right to work set up, over 50% of the teachers stopped paying dues immediately .

Yes, this is Murica, If I own a business that I built, why shouldn't i be able to fire you? It is my money, my business.

I think many unions have over reached and lost sight of the needed cooperation between management and workers to win in competitive industries. I also think in the south too much control is in the hands of management to the detriment of the people doing the heavy lifting.

The best balance is with foreign companies who have opened operations in this region. They pay better than other industries, they treat workers better but they expect a day's work for a day's pay.

I've contracted most of my career. I've finished a job to a customer's satisfaction and gotten paid on completion of the job.

I'm a union man myself. I feel management is out to balance the books on our backs and it ain't right

Really. Well if the books ain't balanced your back and your butt with be out of work. You guys just think there is an endless supply of money in every company.

Go start and run your own business then you will change your tune.

A question for union guys, Lets say am a 55 year old trucking business owner, I have been building my business for 35 years. I build a tremendously successful business with a 120 employees. Is it okay to you, for my 120 employees to walk out on me and unionize and take control of my company?

How does this owner treat the drivers ? As I see it drivers are the life blood of the company, I'd have to have more details to make a decision.

Lets just say the owner takes salary surveys of the local area and compensates his guys and girls on the high end of the scale locally, As well as, maintaining competitive benefits. The workload is managed by DOT, so, it is pretty much the same across the board.

I can't believe that we are even having this conversation. We are doomed. The only thing that the government should be doing to protect workers is to make sure that business owners are not colluding to suppress wages. You don't like your pay? You can start your own business or get another job. If your worth it, it shouldn't be a problem. Unbelievable!

This quote from Helen speaks volumes about entitlement "How does this owner treat the drivers?" Who cares how you employer treats you, is it nice to work for someone who treats you well? Yes. But, ultimately work is a business transaction. You provide a service to the business owner, he pays you for service you provided. As long as he pays you a wage and does it on time, who cares how he treats you. For some reason, the left thinks businesses only exist to provide jobs for them. Well, guess what, businesses are there to create wealth for the owner, you having a job is just a side effect of successful business ownership. Amazing how employees disrespect someone who pays them every week.

Personally I wouldn't join a union ( given an option) if my employer treated me well and fairly compensated me for my work and loyalty.

I've spent more years employing than being employed, but on a smaller scale. I do believe unions serve a purpose though. There is far too much exploitation of workers in this region.

Why do I feel like your "employing" involves some weird art fag shit?

No, I dislike RTW laws. It basically lets the employer do any and everything they wish to the employee and you have zero recourse. If the admin in the business is ethical, I like it, if not, they can make life hell for an employee.

To me the "the bottom line" is to make a profit and earn a living, period. This goes for all parties involved. Creating wealth is a stretch goal and is subjective in definition anyway. Just because you own a business doesn't mean you are entitled to wealth anymore than a valuable employee. Competition and the value of the product/service offered has a lot to do with how much wealth is earned. In many cases, the value of a business falls primarily on the human resources of the business so the owner must compete with other businesses to retain valuable employees. Of course the most obvious way to compete for human resources is with wages and benefits which eat away at revenue. On the other hand, if the owner provides for a better work environment than its competitors, valuable employees may value the work experience enough to not demand the highest wages or benefits.

So the best way to protect yourself in this world is make yourself as valuable as possible no matter where you stand in the relationship. Once all parties involved are comfortable with their employment relationship they can stop focusing so much on personal desires and put more energy into collaborative efforts for the greater good of the business and that's when productivity and profits tend to take off.

Or do you feel they cause problems ?

What problems do they cause? Your question is sorta like complaining about the price of a car. You can't be opposed to right to work laws and ever complain about the price of anything.

Again, what problems do they cause in all honesty?

Absolutely,

It protects the freedom of both employers and employees.

Employees can still have the choice to form/join unions & Employers have greater flexibility in negotiating with them.

If you don't favor right to work you don't favor freedom.

People who don't favor freedom suck.
