ownership was banned, there would be a reduction in violent crime involving guns?

99% of violent crimes are committed by persons owning unregistered and /or illegally acquired guns.

How does stricter gun laws solve that? We have laws on the books now.

Would like to hear the logic straight up, not attached to any other political preference.

The gun ban argument just doesn't hold water. IN 2007, 78% of all shooting deaths were drug-, gang- or other criminal-related incidents committed with unregistered guns wielded by non-licensed criminals. I have to believe that number is even higher today. The same year, less than 1% were shootings by legal gun owners committing a crime. If the government truly cared, they would be going after the 78% group, but you never see that on the news.

In 2013, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities accounted for 10,076 deaths (30.8 percent of overall driving fatalities). So should we just ban alcohol ? I mean, if we ban alcohol people can't get drunk and get behind the wheel of a car. Looks good on paper, right? While we are at it, might as well end the obesity problem in America as well since it causes so many health issues that lead to unnecessary medical visits and earlier deaths. Let's just ration food for fat people. 1 meal a day and you have to sign in to a federal database and register at every meal so the government knows your daily caloric intake.

Please don't give them any ideas. A few of the resident liberals will take this and run with it. :D

You use a straw man to create a false argument.
Just for kicks though, yes, in the long run violent crime would be drastically reduced. That won't happen though, as we all know this country is too immersed in both gun culture and the numbers of guns to ever take a route that clearly works in every other advanced nation in the world.
What can and should be done is to implement achievable strategic changes in our laws. The only reason these obviously needed tweaks haven't occurred is The NRA's disproportionate influence on law makers.

Hell, they already are. In August a bill was introduced in NYC that would ban single-serving sales of sugary sodas 16 ounces or larger for kids under 18. It's starting to get Ludacris

what advanced countries do you liberals keep mentioning to try and set as an example ? i heard that same reference by libs when trying to promote obamacare, and look what a mess that is; but just wait until it kicks in completely 2016 . the polls still have obamacare way underwater, the white house thought that it would be accepted by the public years ago .

Sure, anybody can POST ''single serving sales of sugary soda'', I challenge you to say it 10 times as quickly as possible without getting tongue tied. If you can do so I will grant your point has merit.

Why would violent crimes be reduced. The far majority of violent crimes are committed by gangs and illegally purchased guns.

What violent crimes by the NRA do you illude to?
Why would anyone want law abiding citizens from owning a gun?

''What violent crimes by The NRA do you allude to ?''
Where did that come from ?
Also where the majority of crimes come from is another bad argument. If we can reduce violent crime by 5% thousands of lives will be saved.

I know your sort prays for failure in the effort to create a better healthcare system, you'd dance and gloat over suffering, do you think God is on your side ?
I'm sure you folks will find a way to take credit is if succeeds though.

FIFY

Just admit the truth. You'd rather live in a failed state than see The POTUS succeed, it's a sickness many share with you.

I'll gladly admit I don't want the POTUS to succeed in furthering his agenda. The pos has done enough damage. It's not a sickness but rather eternal hope and optimism. Sickness is still supporting a failed liberal/progressive president after he's created enough chaos/destruction around the world to last a lifetime.

So criminals will suddenly be enlightened and realize that stricter gun laws might get them in trouble. In the words of the NFL taking heads "Come on man!!" They're criminals for a reason, they don't respect laws nor are they afraid of the consequences.

what is your sickness ?

I just understand your sort too well I suppose, clearly better than you'll admit your real agenda to yourselves.
You're right in a sense though, it's gotten to be no fun since the other rational posters bailed.
So for now I'll leave and let you loonies of a feather BS each other.

Agree 100%.

Then we must enforce the laws on the Violent committers of these crimes (hint, It is not legal Gun owners)
We have seen where violent criminals were taken out of the game and the left Screamed police brutality (michael brown), so you must enforce our laws in order to get the benefit of protecting those that choose not to own or carry a legal gun.

Who is calling for guns to banned? Nobody that I'm aware of. I grew up on a farm with tons of guns. I've owned guns, my father and brother own a lot of guns. However, there should be a full-time acting director of the ATF. There should be a national registry of all illegal guns used in a crime, and those guns should be tracked. There also should be universal criminal background check on everyone who buys a gun, and there should be universal mental health background checks as well. There probably should also be a required safety course that every new gun owner should take to learn how to properly and safely use and store a gun. The NRA should stop actively lobbying against these things, but they won't.

However, nobody is calling for guns to be banned. The government is not coming from your guns.

Everyone is trying to figure out why we have so many gun related deaths along with mass shootings. So why does that happen so frequently in our country? I think a major reason is the amount of stress people face in this country coupled with lack of mental health care.
