Tech game - UGA leads 2-1, bottom of 5th, 1 out, Tech has a runner on 2nd. Dawgs starter Tim Elliot has only given up 2 hits all night. Coach pulls him to bring in Goodman to face a LH batter. (Next batter after that is a righty). After a wild pitch, a 2-run homer and a 4-pitch walk (which later scores another run for Tech) Goodman is pulled for Gowen. After a couple of more wild pitches Gowan gives up a sac fly and another 2-run homer, and ultimately a 7th run. Dawgs go from a 2-1 lead to trailing 7-2. Only out to show for it is the sac fly before finally getting out of the inning.

Ok hindsight is 20-20. But we are already short on pitching and Elliot has pitched a great game and has been good all year. If we are worried about the righty-lefty matchup why not issue an intentional walk and setup an inning-ending double play with our starter on the mound? What’s the hurry to bring guys in from a bullpen missing some critical arms already? Seems like we just outsmarted ourselves on this one. Big time. Hopefully there’s some info I’m not aware of.
