About a year ago, D1Baseball’s Mike Rooney proposed expanding the post-season field to 74 teams, scrapping the 4 team regionals, and instead go to a first round featuring 32 host teams (the top 8 seeds would actually host a Thursday play-in game featuring the 2 lowest ranked teams). Being one who likes tradition and is not a big fan of change, I wasn’t thrilled with the idea. But having read his article on expansion on D1Baseball, I’m really coming around on his idea and think it might be time given the changing landscape of college sports and conference expansion. I won’t post the details of Rooney’s proposal - I’ll post the article here, although it unfortunately sits behind a paywall:
