Couple of notes.
-Max Ford is not listed. Josh Day is. At various times I'd heard that one of both guys had left, but couldn't quite pin it all the way down. That's too bad on Max.... I thought that he could help us out on the mound.
-Morgan Bunting is not coming back. I didn't really understand that addition last season.
-I don't remember seeing this name on any of the signing lists, but it appears that Drew Moody's brother Logan Moody will be a freshman on the team this year. He's listed as an OF and 1B, right handed hitter, and appears to be built like Drew.
-Shane Tucker and Trevor Tinder (both RHPs) are names I don't recognize.
-Josh Day is still listed as a catcher only. That makes four guys who are listed only or partially as catchers. Stricklin has said previously that the plan was to use the Gainesville Red Elephants (Skyler Weber and Michael Curry) behind the dish. I'll be interested to see how or if Day can factor into that. His should basically precluded him from playing a position last year as I understand it.
-Looking at the heights and weights of the new guys, it definitely appears that we made an effort to get bigger with this signing class, at least contrasted against Stricklin's first fall signing class.
-I think that DJ Smith had a year of eligibility, but is not listed.
-Ryan Avidano is not on the roster. I think that there's a chance we could see him against in 2017, but it doesn't look like he's in the fold for next season.
-I count 34 players on the roster. That includes Trevor Kieboom, who Stricklin says will not be available for the fall, and reading between the lines, may not play in the spring either.
-All told, I count five players from the Stricklin's first fall signing class who are no longer on the roster. The two I mentioned above, plus Blake Hamilton, and then Slade Dale and Logan Moseley weren't around for fall practice as freshman. That's a bothersome amount of attrition.... Of the guys that we inked that first fall, I think that only Keegan McGovern, Trey Logan, Josh Day, and Bo Tucker remain (Henry Rowling, Aaron Rzucidlo, and Mitchell Webb were all signed in the spring class). Stricklin said on the radio a few weeks ago that we were going to be "young" in 2016. I suppose part of the reason is that we've already lost half of his first signing class before those guys were sophomores.
-Going a step further, whether they were asked or told to leave or left on their own, I count 12 non-drafted players who have left the program with eligibility remaining over the past two years. 12 guys.... Actually 13 if you count Justin Bryan who left after Stricklin's first fall. Every draftee that we've had the the past two seasons has signed and every one except for Hunter Cole did so quickly. I don't know that we can ever expect to put a veteran team on the field at this rate. That's a very bothersome number to me. It's more than we signed in last fall's class. Or to put it another way, we've basically lost a signing class worth of players in two years through non-draft attrition.
