The pathetic $750 offer in NC just got more pathetic. If you apply for the $750, you have to sign a waiver agreeing to repay it. Basically it’s a loan, not relief. The waiver says if you don’t repay the $750, they seize your property. While free money heads overseas by the truckload.

The neighbor next to my place on Beech Mtn, NC told Me FEMA is just in the way and doing nothing but looking for accolades. Most of the help is coming from locals and fema is interfering. She said many farmers and businesses will use their equipment and open roads with large trees etc, only to have fema come along and close it down.

The biggest or only hotel in Banner Elk, best western I think, at the base of beech is needed by many locals whose homes were destroyed, problem is FEMA booked over half of these rooms for their own personnel. Leaving these displaced locals nowhere. The locals raised enough hell to kick those Freeloaders out and make room for needy.

Confirmed the confiscation of supplies and the application process to get stuff makes it virtually impossible. The locals are helping each other and that’s how help is happening. Still no power.

Also said people up there are Mad as hell and have made voting a priority this year and going to ensure they themselves find a way to vote and they will be voting against current admin.

It doesn’t bother you to repeat outright lies like that? Total BS …

Support for North Carolina

Financial Support: FEMA has approved more than $32 million in housing and other types of assistance for over 27,000 households.

Staffing:
As response efforts continue in North Carolina, more than 800 FEMA staff are on the ground, with more arriving daily. Over 1,200 Urban Search and Rescue personnel remain in the field helping people. These teams have rescued or supported over 3,200 survivors to date. In a move to strengthen recovery operations in Western North Carolina, President Biden has ordered an additional 500active-duty troops equipped with advanced technological assets to the area. This brings the total number of active-duty military personnel supporting the response to 1,500. Dozens of Disaster Survivor Assistance staff are on the ground in affected areas to help survivors apply for FEMA assistance and connect them with additional state, local, federal and voluntary agency resources. Experienced FEMA leaders from around the country are in the field to bolster response efforts.

Sheltering: Over 1,700 people who cannot return home are staying in safe and clean lodging through FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program. Transitional Sheltering Assistance is available for North Carolinians displaced by Helene. Residents in declared counties who have applied for disaster assistance may be eligible to stay temporarily in a hotel or motel paid for by FEMA while they work on their long-term housing plan. People do not need to request this assistance. FEMA will notify them of their eligibility through an automated phone call, text message and/or email, depending upon the method of communication they selected at the time of application for disaster assistance.

Shelter numbers continue to decline, with 22 shelters housing just under 1,000 occupants. Mobile feeding operations continue to help survivors in heavily impacted areas, including three mass feeding sites in Buncombe, McDowell and Watauga counties.

Power and Cellular Restoration: As of today, more than 86% of originally reported power outages have been restored. Cellular restoration continues to improve, with less than 20% of cellular sites down. FEMA is boosting response coordination by providing Starlink units to ensure first responders can communicate with each other.

Commodities: Commodity distribution, mass feeding and hydration operations are underway in areas of western North Carolina. FEMA commodity shipments are enroute to support operations. The agency is on track to meet requested delivery timelines for meals and water.

Rumor: FEMA only provides loans to disaster survivors.

Fact

This is false. In most cases, FEMA grants do NOT have to be paid back.
There are some less common situations in which you may have to pay FEMA back if you receive duplicate benefits from insurance or a grant from another source. For example, if you have insurance that covers your temporary housing costs, but you ask FEMA to advance you some money to help you pay for those costs while your insurance is delayed, you will need to pay that money back to FEMA after you receive your insurance settlement.

FEMA cannot seize your property or land. Applying for disaster assistance does not grant FEMA or the federal government authority or ownership of your property or land. When you apply for disaster assistance a FEMA inspector may be sent to verify the damage on your home. This is one of many factors reviewed to determine what kind of disaster assistance you may be eligible for. If the results of the inspection deem your home uninhabitable, that information is only used to determine the amount of FEMA assistance you may receive to make your home safe, sanitary and functional.

Govt propaganda or you can believe the actual residents annd neighbors affected by this who I’ve known and trusted for years.
