I will be the first to admit that I'm not very happy with how this thing played out. I'm not even talking necessarily about the final decision either. It was evident from the start that Bauta wasn't going to be the guy. I think Richt kept him in the race as a reward for how hard he worked in the offseason. Taking reps away from the two guys that really had a chance to be the starter just doesn't make much sense. The race was indeed tight and you can tell that from how exhausted Richt looked in his press conference. I think he really struggled with this decision and it was wearing on him. I have no problem with naming Lambert the starter if the coaches feel he is the best person for the job. I have a problem with the message it sends to the team though. With the race being so close, you would think that the coaches would go with the guy who has been with the team for the past several years and not the guy who just walked in the door. It would make it easier to choose Lambert if he blew the others away but that wasn't the case. I just worry how some of the team will react to the decision. Obviously if they win, that will cure everything but if they don't there may be some issues. We all heard people stating that Lambert would be named the starter the minute that he got on campus. Things like that do make you wonder if CBS wanted his own guy (Lambert) and not Bobo's guy (Ramsey). We will never know all of the behind the scenes drama and nor should we. In the end, I will get behind Lambert and move forward because I'm a Dawg fan to the bone. I just don't think Richt and company did themselves any favors the way they handled this.
