How fun has it been to watch him develop and become the starter he was capable of being? I’m not saying he has arrived but he is a completely different pitcher now than he was at the beginning of the year. He had himself one hell of a night last night, going 6 innings on 108 pitches, striking out 12 batters. We know he can give you 5-6 solid inning every time he throws and he has the endurance to not only throw over 100 pitches, but to still be very effective doing it. A lot of pitchers look gassed at that point and are not as effective. Not Finley, He was still great at 108 pitches. Just incredible.
My only criticism is that it seems to take him about 60 pitches to be at his very best. Obviously he pitched a shutout last night so it’s not like he was a disaster before hitting 60 pitches. But he certainly hits his marks better the longer he pitches. If he can somehow settle in earlier, his ability to throw 100+ pitches can start getting him even deeper into games - 7-9 innings. Now, that just may not all that realistic in today’s college game, but he has the endurance to do it.
