before we even think about making a coaching change, isn't that a pretty crappy way to treat the HC that you obviously love and admire?....cause you would have to go back channel, find that interested coach, and basically have him signed, sealed, and delivered...all behind Richt's back, because you want him as the fall back plan if we can't get one of those 3-4 guys on the "can't miss" list....I'm not a Richt fan, but even I wouldn't treat him that way...if Richt is such a special guy, and I believe in alot of ways he is, than it just doesn't seem like justice....either he's the guy we need to bring championships, or he's not....either we want him, or we don't....but this business about getting guarantees behind the scenes before we can make a move is not only ludicrous, it's also no way to handle the coach that has given UGA great service in his time here....if the powers that be ever decide(big if) a change is necessary, then I would hope the first thing they do is inform Richt and his staff, then form/hire the committee that will find the best candidate that is interested in UGA....hell, how could even know the full list of interested parties if there is no official opening at UGA?....if I'm the HC at a school I wouldn't want it leaked that I'm looking to jump ship to school that doesn't have an opening yet(unless I'm looking for a raise), and I also would wonder what UGA would do behind my back if I under perform....and I would OK w/ a coordinator with no HC experience if he was the best candidate, just as Richt was 15 years ago(maybe not our first choice, but sound option)
