I would disagree vehemently. Jim Harrick, Tubby Smith, even Hugh Durham and Ken Roseman when they recruited well all say “hello.” But some keep saying that UGA will never be a power in basketball. I say look at Auburn, Alabama, both Mississippi schools, Arkansas, LSU, Florida, and others. All of these schools have/have had strong football programs as well as powerful SEC basketball programs. If all of these schools, as well as others, can have powerful football and basketball programs, there’s absolutely no reason why UGA can’t. Actually, it proves the point that a school like UGA which has strong NIL standing, has a wealth of potential in basketball should be able to change a basketball program in one or two years.

We just have to find a good head coach. All of these other schools have done that, and UGA should be able to do that also. First, we need to try to hire a proven winner and big name coach by paying whatever it takes to get him. If that doesn’t work, we need to hire a sharp basketball mind and proven winner at a smaller school. But never do we need to settle for somebody who’s about to get fired or run off at his present school. Brooks should appoint a select committee of former UGA basketball players to research the field and narrow the list down to a top three or four candidates. Use their wealth of knowledge to hire a proven winner and get this program over the hump.
