New clock rules cost us the game Gator:
Well, certainly not the way most of us wanted the season to start. Tough for a young team to come back against a veteran squad with the new rules clock running down, down, down.
Growing pains it seems.
Billy's mom Gator:
Love Billy, but this team is poorly coached. Good thing he took 2 timeouts into the half.
lack of special teams focus still killing us.
can’t even line up in a legal formation.
Quick posting Gator:
Go Gators!
In before the lock
Contemplative Gator: I am going to have to think a while before I share my game thoughts. My admiration for CBN and what I have seen on the field are in conflict.
"Do you wanna eat? Do you wanna eat? I wanna eat!" Gator: I'm struggling with my team playing so poorly and our coach being so mellow. Where is the fire?
Back to the early and mid 2010's Gator:
270 yards
13 1st downs
3/13 3rd down conversions
Pretty good Def effort
Funny Gator: I knew the altitude would cause us to lose
"I heard Billy just recruited on EA Sports NCAA Football and played the games on auto" Gators: Agreed
. I love Billy the CEO and recruiter. I haven’t seen much that makes me happy with Billy the coach or coordinator.
"Fire Billy!!!!...in two years" Gator:
Billys got one job : recruit.
Lets get the jimmys and the joes then Ill worry about the Xs and Os. See Ron Zook to Urban Meyer years.
Slingblade slow Gator:
Mertz looked slow and indecisive... that has to change. Where's that 2 minute offense...or the hurry-up offense?
He was slow as molasses... Coaching slow... gives you game-time slow.
I'm boycotting Outback Steakhouse. Don't care if it was started in Tampa. Gator:
That team was not properly prepared to play - plain and simple. I like Billy, but jeez Louise!
As an aside, I don’t care how far that Aussie punter can kick as long as he continues to shank every 4th or 5th punt.
"It's like McElwain with no hope of winning the division" Gator:
OL needs a lot of work. Napier play calling, urgency and clock management are unacceptable.
Upside, defense overall looked better. More pressure needed but solid start.
"If I wanted a CEO, I would've hired Warren Buffet" Gator:
I want to talk about Napier’s in-game coaching.
Not about bis CEO skills, or the relationships he builds, or how he recruits, or how he carries himself.
He is paid millions of dollars to COACH football.
I see absolutely nothing in his playcalling that isn’t pedestrian.
I see no halftime adjustments. I don’t see him making marginal players better and squeezing every possible ounce of production from them.
I don’t see him scheming to beat a superior opponent.
I don’t see player discipline, sound fundamentals, or anyone playing above their talent level.
I saw absolutely no difference between tonight and the Las Vegas Bowl. None. He changed the roster supposedly for the better. Why then can we not play better? Not even talking about winning, just not looking like hot garbage.
14 games in and I cannot tell what our identity is on offense or defense. The program isn’t in a constant state of flux, it’s in a constant state of inertia.
If a coach is going to make it, at some point you have to start playing good football, even if a superior team beats you. 14 games into his tenure and we have yet to approach average football. Flashes of talent followed by bonehead decisions is not good football.
Coach Eminem Gator: Combine the worst qualities of Muschamp and McElwain, then you got CBN
"And Mertz was probably the bright spot on offense" Gator: The fact the University of Florida is rolling that QB out there is an issue. And I do understand our most recent history. But if we do have to settle for that, Etienne should have had 30 carries. Instead we are in this twilight zone where he has 7 carries for 25 or so. I dont get it. If you are throwing a slip screen 4th and 14 and pump fake direcly play side.....I dont get that either.
Insulting Galen Hall Gator: I know folks love the Napier hire and I hope they're right, but damn his offense looks like something out of the 80s and thats not good imo.
Top 1% of 1% Gator: Name one player on this roster that would play on the 08 team? Just one.
Snake Oil Billy Gator:
I was ridiculed this week on another thread for questioning Napier’s Xs and Os. A lot of Gator fans have drank the kool aid that this relationship building and people-centric approach to football are going to supercede everything.
Wake up people! We still have to put on the helmets and play ball!
I see absolutely nothing in Napier’s Xs and Os that stands out in any way. NOTHING.
Napier may be a smooth talker and convince people that his approach is the right one, but he continues to get owned on gameday.
Disney Gator: I'm sticking with my prediction of 5-7 this year, but only because I'm an optimist.
Hard to find 'em cause Kirby took 'em all Gator:
When it comes to assistant coaches, they say that they are usually good recruiters or good coaches, but it’s difficult to find one who is both.
Our assistant coaches are good recruiters.
And, lots of us have said that if Napier doesn’t make it, at least our next coach will have talent on the team.
One Gator's Slingblade is another Gator's Braveheart: I am still with Coach ….did not expect a win . Still disappointed. On to the next game. Then we will take down Rocky top.
Vicious circle Gator: My biggest fear this season will go as expected and fans melt down as usual and recruiting momentum falls apart and we end up in the same place.
How the chats become conspiracy theory havens Gator: Know what I hate? Posters I've never seen on this board pissing and moaning about the Gator's performance. Headed to the premium forum to get some real perspective.
Opportunity is nowhere Gator: Derek Dooley had a better record after 14 games at UT than Billy does at UF.
Mary Poppins Gator:
Mertz exceeded my expectations. So did our defense.
Offensive line might be a struggle this year but they’ll improve as we go.
Keep it positive, or at least make an effort to look for it
David Letterman Top ten Gator:
10. The offensive did a great job running out the clock with the score 24-3 Utes.
9. 3 + 3 only equals 5 yards not 6.
8. CBN remained calm throughout the game.
7. Number 16 on our defense only whiffed at two plays that were TDs that I saw.
6. We've got a much needed 10 whole days to get ready for McNeese.
5. Our defensive linemen have extra time to pick up speed when they run around before the snap not knowing where to go.
4. DJ Lagway has a great chance to be our Game 1 starter next year.
3. Our O-Line has lots of room for improvement.
2. We should hopefully play at least 5 teams this year that are not ranked when we face them.
1. Next year can't get here soon enough.
(It sounds a lot like what we were saying about MR in his last years as coach. But at least he was winning a lot of games by comparison. "I love/like Billy, but....." "He's a good man, but...." and "Calm and collected on the sidelines is good up to a point, but sometimes you have to have that fire.")
