There was no shortage of Georgia targets on the field for Buford and Cedar Grove on Friday night.
UGASports was on hand to cover the game and was able to see prospects in the pads for the first time in a while. Admittedly, this was a scrimmage and both teams were keeping things very vanilla, but it there were still insights that were able to be gathered.
Pope moves well. He's a very fluid athlete and hustles to the football. Cedar Grove didn't test him through the air, mostly working the other side of the field. Pope is used as a punt returner and a wide receiver as well for Buford. Looking forward to seeing more games out of Pope this fall, as a decision on his part seems to be trending now closer to signing day.
The 2024 two-way star for Buford was electrifying. Arguably, Bolden was the most talented player on the field. Georgia and Florida State are the two schools recruiting him the hardest he tells UGASports. Bolden had a long TD reception on a tunnel screen in which he showed great elusiveness and top-end speed. Bolden was part of a meeting with offensive coordinator Todd Monken in June that also was attended by Justice Haynes, Pearce Spurlin, Lawson Luckie, De'Nylon Morrissette, and other priority offensive targets across multiple classes.
#52 for Cedar Grove
Miller showed great get-off and upper body strength. Also, Christen Miller is a leader. The Cedar Grove offense struggled all night and Miller and the defense was on the field a lot. Miller didn't allow people to act tired and stayed after the ball the entire game. Even against a talented Buford OL, Miller was able to get constant penetration. Miller is a big bodied, easily now around 300 pounds and moves very well. I came away impressed by Miller in a game in which it would have been easy to mail it in early on, especially in a scrimmage setting.
#8 for Cedar Grove
Madden looked the part in pregame and warmups. The size, measurables, and athleticism are undeniable. However, there were times when Madden looked unnatural at inside linebacker. Cedar Grove is trying to use him inside and he takes on the run well, but is clearly still learning that position. The athletic linebacker was able to intercept Buford pass attempt over the middle at the end of the first half. Also, I had to keep reminding myself that Madden has not played varsity football against the like of Buford in a long time, if ever, with being ineligible last season. Madden pursues the ball well and has ridiculously long arms. Madden will be a quality EDGE rusher and defender at the next level. Looking forward to seeing the growth of Madden throughout this season. When CG did use Madden to pressure the quarterback, it resulted in rushed incompletions for Buford.
#4 for Cedar Grove
Looked to be well above 160 pounds now. Lee is very quick and was matched up on Florida commit and speedster Isaiah Bond most of the evening. Lee, by in large, held his own. Lee was very physical and unafraid to come up and in run support on the perimeter. Georgia and Ohio State appear to have the early edge in Lee's recruitment.
2025 RB - Bo Walker. 5'9" 180. #0 for Cedar Grove
Walker does not have a Rivals profile yet. The incoming freshman at Cedar Grove has an offer from Arkansas already. Walker has the attention of running back coach Dell McGee already. Walker was sporting some Georgia gloves from visit to Athens earlier this summer. Those gloves help Walker make a tremendous one-handed catch out of the backfield early on in the contest that subsequently resulted in Walker breaking tackles and streaking up the sideline for a nice gain.
