Good Morning One and All,
Thank you to the Lady of the House, Mrs. April, for allowing me to open us up this morning. The coffee today is better than most. Thank you also to Old Army Dawg for filling in for me yesterday. I am sorry that I have been MIA the past few days.
One of my former students and one of my older son's best friends is Ben Carr who just made it to the finals of the US Amateur golf tournament. On Friday, he was playing in the Elite 8, quarterfinals, and after he won, my son, Ben's brother, another childhood friend of Ben's, and I hopped on a plane and flew to New Jersey to watch him play. For me, Saturday was much more nerve-wracking because of what was on the line: qualifying for The Masters and the US Open. After he won, we stayed on the 16th green for about an hour laughing, talking, and taking pictures. We didn't return to the hotel until around 9:30 for a late supper and a few hours of sleep. Sunday was a long day (36 holes), and Ben played like a warrior. He fought back from being down five to Sam Bennet, but he couldn't quite catch him. I would never say Ben lost, because he didn't. When you earn a position in the Masters, then you've won in my book. Plus, Ben is bigger than just golf. He is a wonderful young man who is going to be great at anything he desires; golf, accounting, or whatever. The best part of the weekend was watching the boys interact. They didn't talk golf or the Masters. It was like they were 8 years old again. The laughed and talked about video games. The Masters is huge, but brotherly bonds like what they have is bigger.
With all that said, I am a bit out of the loop regarding our beloved Dawgs. I read the practice report which sounded like the defense is really starting to gel. I also read about Paul's knee injury. If there is any strength and conditioning staff that can get him back and better than ever, it's ours. I hate it for the young man though. I also read about Sam MPemba's recruitment. It sounds like we're in the thick of it with Tennessee, Notre Dame, and Miami. With that competition, I'd normally feel confident, but with NIL, Miami make me nervous. I really want MPemba and think he's goig to be a star.
I should probably wrap up. Prayers for Life and his bride as they recover from their surgeries. Prayers also for Mrs. Major as she is still recovering from her broken leg. Prayers for those on our list who are battling and fighting everyday against cancer or other chronic illnesses.
Y'all have a great day. Take care and Go Dawgs!
