This is a great story to start off the week of our first game. It occurred during Stetson’s first year, the summer before reporting to summer camp at UGA.
Pierce County had just had a coaching change, and the incoming head coach had just started the summer weight program at Pierce Co.
Not knowing the coach, Stetson asked if it would be ok if he worked out with the team until he went to UGA. The coach responded telling him sure but then asked Stetson why he was going to UGA because If he went to a smaller school, he could start immediately! Stetson responded that he will be the starting QB at UGA one day. The coach was taken a back but told Stetson he was glad that he had that aspiration, but told him that he could start almost anywhere in the country at a smaller school. Stetson even more emphatically told the coach that he would be the starting QB at UGA! That was the first time the two had ever spoken with each other. The coach would later say that’s when he knew, “That Stet is a different dude!!!”
One of my favorite quotes from Stet after the 2021 Natty: “Sometimes you just have to bet on yourself!!”
All GOATS have that belief, and it separates them from everyone else.
