Lots of folks saying "fox should've known or should've played him more"....
If you have watched the games over the last season and a half - Crump often looked very timid, turned over the ball easily, often took bad shots, and clearly didn't have confidence. Yes he has had moments (last year at Tennessee with back to back to back threes) but he has lacked the consistency that we would need for him to get starters minutes.
My takeaway from last nights game is that Crump has gotten more confident and comfortable in his role, this is thanks to the coaching staff that has been working with him.
Hammonds on the other hand looks like he will be a great player but is having trouble with confidence at times. I am pretty confident that next year he becomes a major 10+ppg contributor. This wont be in spite of the coaching staff but will be thanks to the coaching staff working with him everyday.
We are very quick as a group to dismiss the coaching staff but are the only ones that have a real pulse on the skill and confidence level of these kids that we don't. Just happy that the new and improved Crump was able to show up last night - going to need more of these performances if we don't want to waste Yante's senior year. Game was a lot of fun to watch.
