1. Start putting smart money into this program. Hire a basketball staff focused on analytics and personalized coaching like we are doing for football, including installing SportVU, even if that includes no center-hung scoreboard. The NBA is now light-years ahead of the NCAA in analytics and we should jump on board. I hate that we argue merit of players/coaches off of stats used for every game since Naismith first put up those peach baskets. If the current coach is unwilling to adapt to new techniques, find someone who will.
2. Spend money on recruiting elite talent. Somehow we are off, because elite talent is not coming here. Maybe a helicopter trip to the recruit's school, or a full-staff limo ride to an AAU tournament will turn a head or two the way it does for football recruits. Player evaluation seems correct under CMF, he offered almost every major talent in GA, yet he landed none. Some coaches might "flip the script " and find a different way to impress a recruit.
3. Start spending money on fan "education ". I am not debating whether or not we have some bball-intelligent fans, but the vast majority of our fan base has been beaten over the head with mediocrity for so long, we are not close to resembling a fan base that can excite a home team and be creative in crucial situations that may affect a free-throw or cause a to. We are not interactive with the team (all we have are the band doing tired-old chants from the 70s and Sweater guy, who at least is on his feet 90% of the game).
I don't care who the coach is, but President Morehead and ADGM should absolutely put an equal amount of energy into the entire program like they did with football this year. Instead of us complain about the same stuff for the majority of the past 30 years, why can't we be on the leading edge of the next 30 years?
