He is the type of person that could help the division of the country. He has common sense and isn’t afraid to say what he believes and clearly he loves the United States. I’m sure he has no interest in politics but we need people like him to help heal the nation.

I’m sure there will be some that will want to drag his name through the mud or say he’s been brainwashed by the right or he doesn’t act “like the rest of us so how can he be for us”

he and Ben Watson are great ambassadors and would love for either to take political office

Couldn’t agree more. Both DGDs and great Americans.

He told the world he suffer with different personalities but his stance towards something you agree with make you think he should be president ?

Genuine question, would you say that if he was a democrat?

Do you mean if he had those same ideals, but considered himself to be a Democrat? Yes.

The important factor here is his stance on important issues, not what party he considers himself to be part of. I couldn't care less if he called himself a Democrat, provided he held those same beliefs.

Bingo

I’m sure “Herschel for President” is hyperbole. I do hope Ben Watson runs for office someday though. He is not afraid to speak on issues that both sides deem controversial. He seems to have that align with most conservatives and others that align with most liberals.

HW is a DGD, but any suggestion that he would make a good U.S. President is ridiculous. He makes some of the most unbelievable statements I have ever heard, and he is tone deaf on so many issues. Just leave Herschel alone and let him remain in his current capacity, but never as U.S. President.....wacko.

I will say that Ben Watson is a real intellectual who should be listened to. And damn, he ran down Champ Bailey from the other side of the field 100 yards away to save a touchdown. (Patriots v. Broncos)

That was a touchback. Still pissed about that blown call.

Also, apparently Belichick still references that play when he asks what he looks for in his players.

Genuine question, would you say that if he was a democrat?
No, because if he were a Democrat, he would be a liar, and a cheat, and be trying to subvert the US Constitution. If he were a DEM he'd be trying to raise taxes and regulations that would hurt businesses' ability to hire people which would hurt poor people most of all. If he were a DEM he would be promoting income redistribution and other anti-American Marxist policies harmful to liberty and harmful prosperity for all.

I would not be a fan if he were promoting any of those idiot DEM positions.

Genuine question, would you say that if he was a democrat?
No, the Democrat party has morphed into something unamerican since the evil Orangeman took over. It’s unrecognizable. Obama would have run from some of these ideas and policies being pushed. Think about that...

The Vent gets dumber each day.
It’s the Chat though brah... unnecessary comment really... Based on what he's said, he's basically a straight-line conservative and he doesn't get sucked up into identity politics. That doesn't completely match up with my views, but it's good enough for me.
It is fascinating to me how the meaning of "straight-line conservative" has evolved in my lifetime, particularly in regards to social issues but lately in regards to economic issues as well. The reason I voted for Republicans consistently for a majority of my life is because they tended towards fiscally responsibility, advocated for free trade, and supported building and maintaining international coalitions. The advent of the Moral Majority altered the fabric of the Republican party and "conservative" became a social label, as well as an economic one. I'm still an old school conservative economically but I am in firm disagreement with "social" conservatives on a majority of issues. Fortunately the northeast US still has a few socially liberal, economically conservative Republicans like Larry Hogan and Charlie Baker, who, incidentally, are two of the three most popular governors in the US. If either of them attempted to run for office in the deep south they would be tagged as socialists.

Ben Watson has been firm in his support for "Focus on Family". This organization was created by James Dobson, a man who suggested killing trans people and has spent his career fighting against homosexuality. Focus on Family supports abstinence only sex education, an absurd position that directly leads to more unwanted pregnancies and abortions, something this organization wants to end. It is literally counter productive. Focus on Family also is against almost all LGBT rights, including marriage and adoption. Focus on Family also support teaching creationism in school. They are also against many "sins", including gambling, pre-marital sex, divorce, "drugs" (including marijuana), and porn.

The most disturbing position of Focus and Family has been their consistent moral and economic support of gay "conversion therapy". Focus on Family has sponsored conferences world-wide on the subject and backs the practice. Gay conversion therapy is regarded by every major medical association in the western world as not only detrimental to gay people but actual torture. It has been banned in nine countries and that number is growing yearly. It is not just ignorant but is cruel and unjustifiable morally or ethically.

When Watson appeared on Fox News to defend his support of Focus on Family after Dree Brees had disavowed his association with the organization on discovering that anti LGBT and supportive gay conversion therapy information were easily seen on their website and advocated by their founder, Watson decried these descriptions as "scandalous" and "misleading".

"When asked how he thought critics were lying, Watson said “labeling Focus on the Family as anti-gay, anti-nondiscrimination.”

Obviously, Ben Watson either refused to actually read the website before or after associating with them or he supports their positions and protects them through dissimulation. Either way, his actions are reprehensible.

Whether that should preclude people from voting for him depends on your personal beliefs. Support for Focus on Family and the torture of gay people has not stopped Mike Pence from becoming the vice president.

The thread started on the Vent, brofessor.

Yeah, I'd say I'm more of a "Goldwater Republican" than part of the "Christian Right". That basically makes me a Libertarian, but for every Ron Paul, there's a Vermin Supreme that makes the party a complete joke.

It's funny you mention Hogan and Baker, because I've always felt they're the "last hope" for the GOP as the country shifts further left. I think right now, you could run either of them against practically anyone the Democrat party would throw out and they'd be favored to win the Presidency. Hogan in particular is someone I'd like to see run in 2024.

You bring up valid concerns about Watson, and that's one of the reasons why I did not lump him in with Herschel. Watson's appeal here is more centered around his faith, which does not really appeal to me personally. Herschel likely shares similar views, but unlike Watson, his political commentary has extended beyond a few comments about abortion, religion, and BLM protests.

What I like about Herschel is his character. Taking politics and his alma mater aside for a second, for someone from his background to massively succeed in life is truly exceptional. I have a ton of respect for people like that, and that extends to those from all political backgrounds (John Lewis, for example).

I would love to see what he could do in Congress, particularly if the alternative is a leftist.

I'm genuinely curious how democrats are subverting the constitution?
You can start with Woodrow Wilson & FDR and go from there. Repubs arent completely innocent either, as Nixon started the unconstitutional EPA.

Funny you say he makes unbelievable statements when you have Joe Biden, Nancy, Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Adam Schiff, Maxine Waters, AOC, Jerry Nadler, etc etc etc as your party leaders,,, LOL what idioits.

You are in no way conservative sir. From what you have said above, you are an athiest that believes murdering innocent babies is a perfectly fine thing to do, that the gay life style is normal, and the government should force Christians to accept that view. You in fact want more government control because you would agree with forcing the Christian baker to make the cake instead of telling the gays just find another baker. You want the government involved in sex education when that should be taught in the home. The problem with the education system is that they spend time being involved in social issues instead of educating in math, science, technology, etc etc. You guys that claim any sort of conservatism are just trying to make yourself feel better about something... Heck, if my party had folks in it like Biden, the Clintons, Obama, Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, Nadler, AOC, Maxine Waters, George Soros, etc etc etc,,, i would be ashamed to show my face. In fact, I would convert and actually become a conservative.
