new to me as I was there in an environment unfamiliar to me and hostile. I followed the lead of those with experience and prayed no bad chit happened. There in a capacity not trained as a grunt but there none the less. I greatly appreciate all those Soldiers, Marines and SF from all the services who knew better than I had to handle it. Can recall a Ranger friend telling me the chill running up his back as he was there with only one other US guy in the mountains with Afghan forces trying to teach them how to defend their border, how to engage the enemy with conviction and wondering all along which one of those illiterate SOBs was about to shoot him in the back. Most Afghan soldiers at least in that area, are wholly uneducated and have no world view. Their motivations are basic. I briefly felt that chill and its way tough to maintain composure. Near as I can figure, you have to adopt the mentality God is going to bring you home when ready so don't agonize over it. Of course, I never fully adopted that mentality. The movies, I think, have so far failed to convey that feeling, that fear managed and certainly the Left has no effin' idea of. It would be great if someone were able to depict that chit. Many could not know what it's like (example only) having $60K in cash for the purpose of trying to get certain projects done or tasks completed and finding local help to do it. Doesn't take longer before all the locals know who is carrying that cash; bulls eye on you. Even with armed buddies with you, won't help in an ambush. Plenty of pucker to go around.
