so long as Trump is no longer Covid positive? Isn't it safer once you've got antibodies? And both candidates have been doing in person events for months. Doing virtual clearly benefits one candidate over the other, and you can't point to safety without holding your nose. The fix that is the media is absolutely appalling, regardless of where you fall politically. Everyone feels "morally emboldened" to do whatever it takes to remove Trump.
How can an "independent" election commission unilaterally decide the debate has to be virtual....

Because it allows the people running the debate, which we all agree can be biased, to control microphones and video to favor one candidate over the other. It also allows a candidate to use electronic cheating devices since no one is the room to monitor what they are doing.
Most likely this was pushed because they knew Trump wouldn't agree to it because it's ridiculous. Then they can blame him for cancelling the debate.
Trump campaign insisted on having reps from each campaign as observers of the opposition to check for monkey business.
