knowledge of being a coach etc...this offense that had been installed with MR really had no identity. Yes there was DG and DJS, Musa and KM, MS and AJG...it seemed to change with the personnel somewhat...but basically stay a pro style...as MB matured in the system, it brought huge offensive numbers...it was the Willie Mart D and the 3rd and Grantham defenses that killed any offensive success that was happening each year.

We also missed out on high quality players over the yrs bc of this offensive system...instead of recruiting top level players at any and all offensive positions, we had to go after pro style system QB's, WR's RB's, etc...many of which didn't ant to play in this system...some were asked to change positions..
That's why GT will never amount to much bc they have to find a QB that can run the option and know that system...

I do know this...Cartersville HS has a Soph. QB named Trevor Lawrence, 6'5", 200lbs...already the #1 recruit for 2018...throws like Farve, runs like Tarkenton with a cool spin move, fast and can get away from tacklers...he's got incredible upside..absolutely fun to watch...great touch and maturity for a 10th grader...

He's interested in Clemson and Tennessee...because of the offenses they run...I have watched many of their games...he plays from the gun...only seen him under center maybe 5x in 2 yrs...they have him listed as a pro style QB, which is really odd...if Ga has a hybrid OC.. he'd be interested..

I say that to say...a duel QB is another weapon a defense has to account for...those type QB's have given Ga defenses fits over the years...our QB's are never a threat to run except for DJ...Staff ran some..but wasn't utilized enough bc of the pro style system...

If we bring in Kirby and he continues the offense like we have seen for 15 yrs..I'll puke..

But if there is a hybrid OC that mixes it up and uses weapons, all of them, and doesn't limit recruiting by going after a certain system player and can go after top athletes/players no matter what offense they "fit", I'm all in...

Goes both ways, but I get the frustration. For example, AU, Clemson, UT aren't fits for Eason and other's like him. Our offense, before this year, has been scoring points, that isn't the issue. Eason also wouldn't be a fit at Baylor, Oregon, etc...Styles will always limit recruiting. For every recruit we miss because of style, the schools they get miss out on others. That will never change. If you are pro style, you don't want a spread QB...simply because your line isn't built for that. To truly use a spread qb, you'd have to not only have him, but players that fit the spread completely, especially up front. Just like to use a pocket passer, a spread team wouldn't be able to because they don't pocket pass protect consistently or well.

Cam Newton not withstanding, I don't think NFL quarterbacks are going to be able to run the spread offense week in and week out and expect a long life in the league. So, kids with an eye on the next level are always gonna have need to find a college system that preps them.

That being said, I like the pro-style offense. I think you can attract the right backs - because you're looking for that balanced attack with a preference on run-first. You're certainly going to attract the best QB's. You can even do well with moderate talent at QB. The pro-style hasn't hurt Bama any... has it? I don't think Coker is NFL-grade.

When Bobo had our O rolling, we were throwing 40+ points a game. Unfortunately, we had Grantham to immediately return the favor to our foes.

This year, because of our limitations at QB, we couldn't throw the intermediate routes required to back off the LB's. God bless Chubb and Michel for all they did with the LB's pulled forward and DB's playing man on our WR's.

Where Richt failed most often was the inattention to recruiting the meat upfront, on the line. Bama doesn't make that mistake.

We have done fine recruiting QBs, RBs, TEs and pretty good with WRs.
Nobody gets the top Guy every year, but We get our share.
I liked the offense Bobo developed just fine. It was execution this season, along with unimaginative and just plain bad play calling that limited production, not basic scheme.

We've gone after the 5 star OLs just like Bama, they have just been more successful at landing them. We have also had bad luck with several of Our highest rated OL signings either being injured or just not panning out.
We came into this season with The #1 OL in the country in some rankings though, it's not like We've been terrible on either line.

I agree we've gone after some, not many really....and line always seems to be an afterthought...that said, we have struggled on o-line for all but about 2-3 seasons of the past 15...bad luck doesn't do that.

Neil Calloway responsible ...
BTW...Trevor Lawrence, 3300+yrds..66% completion rate, 39TD, 4 Int's...they are favored to win this Fri agst Bainbridge...then it will be on to the dome to play either Buford-WWd Aced...it'll be a TV game for the ages...ya'll have my permission to watch...CVille has a MLB 6'2 230lb that makes almost every tackle..Tyler Reed...hits like a train, runs like a deer, tough as railroad spike...the TE is 6'6" Miller Forristall, Alabama commit..also plays OLB, hardly comes off the field...plays ST also...
I put up some videos of some of the plays in a few games on my facebook page...check em out
Sports Furnace...

As much as I hate to say it...you mean they play for 2nd place? The team that gets whipped by Buford?

And no, Richt is responsible...buck stops there, especially at what we pay. Then again, you could blame someone else, hell, I remember us losing to SC but putting up 40 and people blamed bobo.

Meant NC was a good OL coach and it seems the OL was tougher when he was here...responsible for the 2-3 good years unless you speak of another 2-3 yrs that I slept thru...And yes...all roads go thru Buford unfortunately...WWA will give em game though...Buford had knocked CVille out 2-3 yrs in a row..

Our offensive line has been soft for years. We couldn't close out close big games when we needed to drive it right down there throat. Scored a bunch of points but when it was do or die, we died. Example was 2012 when we lead AL, we beat their butt all over the field. But they won the game, because they believed they should.

Did you see AL against AU on that last drive. When it came crunch time, AL offensive line bucked up and made it happen. That is coached. It's a force of will. This is taught. We don't have it.
